BCCI names revised squads for England ODIs and Zimbabwe T20Is after Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy ruled out

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on Sunday confirmed that Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy have been ruled out of the upcoming ODIs against England and the T20Is against Zimbabwe. Harshit has been replaced by Prince Yadav in the ODI team, while Chakaravarthy will be replaced by Ravi Bishnoi in the T20I side. Harshit Rana ruled out of upcoming England ODIs and Zimbabwe T20Is. (ANI Pic Service) According to the official release issued by the BCCI on Sunday afternoon, Rana reported a sudden onset of discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The subsequent scans revealed a Grade 1 hamstring injury, and hence, he was ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against England. He will now report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (COE) for further assessment and management. ‘How did Harshit Rana get selected directly’: Sadagoppan Ramesh

2 min readJul 10, 2026 05:01 PM IST Former Indian cricketer Sadagoppan Ramesh slammed the Indian team for selecting Harshit Rana. He asked how the side picked up Rana without him proving his fitness? and added, “There are different yardsticks for different players.” “How did Harshit Rana get selected directly to the Indian team without proving his fitness anywhere after surgery? If you haven’t fully recovered from a knee surgery, then it leads to a hamstring or quad injury next, as has happened with him. It’s clear he didn’t return to the Indian team at 100% fitness. It’s just an evidence on how there are different yardsticks for different players. India will produce results again only if they correct this issue,” Ramesh said on his YouTube channel. “The fact they rested him for the Zimbabwe tour and the squad was announced before this injury made it clear that they rested him knowing that he won’t be able to play back-to-back series. This is not about Harshit Rana’s ability,” he said. Varun Chakarvarthy’s injury meant that …

India vs England T20I series: Varun Chakaravarthy brings X-factor and control | Cricket News

India vs England T20I series: Varun Chakaravarthy brings X-factor and control | Cricket News

The batting unit’s abject failure may have been the prime reason for India’s shock 0-2 defeat to Ireland, but skipper Shreyas Iyer would be somewhat relieved to find some bowling reinforcement in the familiar form of Varun Chakaravarthy ahead of the first of five T20Is against England starting Wednesday at Chester-le-Street. Back in 2024 when Shreyas led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title, it was Varun who was his go-to-man with the ball even ahead of Sunil Narine. As his captaincy tenure with India began with two losses at Belfast last week, Shreyas found himself short of answers in the middle overs, when the hosts repeatedly ran away with the game. With India’s white-ball priorities pointing towards next year’s 50-over World Cup in southern Africa, they may have to play T20s without their ultimate X-factor Jasprit Bumrah. He was the cheat code for Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to dial at the first sign of concern. But Shreyas’s predecessors had also been fortunate in another aspect – the presence of X-factors in the spin …

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar gives big update on Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya’s fitness

4 min readMay 20, 2026 01:04 PM IST Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have two weeks time to prove their fitness or risk losing their spots in India’s ODI team for the upcoming series against Afghanistan. While both the players were named in the squad by the selection committee, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar has reinstated that both Rohit and Hardik have to clear the test before joining the team. Rohit, who picked up a hamstring injury during the course of the IPL, spent a considerable time on the sidelines before making his comeback. Having featured mostly as a player whom the franchise substituted with an Impact Player, concerns still remain over whether he has retained 100 per cent fitness. Similarly, Pandya hasn’t taken the field since their defeat to Chennai Super Kings on May 2, with Suryakumar Yadav and then Jasprit Bumrah stepping in as captains. Tale of two tweakers: Noor Ahmad and Varun Chakaravarthy have seen their mystery disappear, the slow way back, is underway | Cricket News

Tale of two tweakers: Noor Ahmad and Varun Chakaravarthy have seen their mystery disappear, the slow way back, is underway | Cricket News

Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders. The fixtures involving these two teams usually bring the focus on their spin prowess. An array of finger spinners pitted against two mystery spinners. Eden Gardens or Chepauk, the narrative was largely on the tweakers. As the two prepare to face-off for the first time this season, placed ninth and tenth in the points table, the focus is once again on the spinners. Or rather their dwindling influence given that at both venues, Chennai and Kolkata, the old spin-friendly surfaces have given way to flatter decks neutralising their spinners to a great extent. In a season where scoring rates have already exceeded the previous years, two numbers stand out for Chennai and Kolkata. Beyond Mumbai Indians, whose attack has conceded 11.13 runs per over in the four matches they have played, Chennai and Kolkata haven’t been far off. Chennai have conceded 10.81 runs per over to Kolkata’s 10.68 and much of it is down to how their spinners, who have been their calling cards in the past, have …

‘Not even one bowler who can guarantee four overs’

‘Not even one bowler who can guarantee four overs’

3 min readApr 3, 2026 01:11 PM IST After Kolkata Knight Riders conceded a second 200-plus score in back-to-back IPL 2026 defeats at the start of their campaign, India spin legend R Ashwin made a scathing assessment of the team’s bowling weaknesses. Opting to bowl first at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, Ajinkya Rahane’s men ended up conceding a whopping 226-run total to SRH. Led by the brutal Powerplay onslaught from Travis Head and Ishan Kishan, none of the KKR bowlers were spared. With Heinrich Klaasen backing up the openers’ attack with a half-century, KKR were left reeling in a tall pursuit, eventually losing by 65 runs. Ashwin observed that KKR’s bowling department is facing major issues with no bowler looking secure and stable to run through a four-over spell. Of the four bowlers who bowled as many overs on Thursday night, veteran Sunil Narine was the most economical even as he conceded nearly 10 runs per over. Varun Chakaravarthy’s comeback ‘inevitable’ despite fading mystery, says KKR coach: ‘He’s always going to be challenged’

Varun Chakaravarthy’s comeback ‘inevitable’ despite fading mystery, says KKR coach: ‘He’s always going to be challenged’

KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar continues to back their premier spinner Varun Chakaravarthy despite his recent rough patch, which has faded his mystery in the shortest format. Chakaravarthy’s stocks have dropped in recent times, following a below-par T20 World Cup in which, from the Super 8 stage, teams started reading his mystery and counter-attacking him; the trend was followed in KKR’s opening match of IPL 2026 against the Mumbai Indians. Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy had a forgettable start to IPL 2026. (PTI) Chakravarthy had a rough time at the T20 World Cup, going at over nine an over even though he ended up with 14 wickets, level with Jasprit Bumrah. His struggles were evident from the game against South Africa, where he was taken apart for 47 runs in a heavy loss. He faced a similar fate against Mumbai Indians, where Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton took him apart, and he failed to get any wickets there. The spinner returned wicketless figures of 0/48 as KKR failed to defend 210, slumping to a six-wicket …

Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan retain top two spots in ICC T20I rankings | Cricket News

2 min readApr 1, 2026 05:59 PM IST Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan have retained their top two spots in the International Cricket Council’s men’s T20I batting rankings. The pair, who were an integral part of the Indian team that won the 2026 T20 World Cup, is joined in the top 10 by Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav. The only players to make any moves in the top 20 of the rankings are England’s Jos Buttler and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert. Abhishek leads the chart with 875 points, followed closely by Kishan at 871. Tilak is placed sixth with 742 points and Suryakumar is seventh with 722. Buttler and Seifert have effectively exchanged spots, with the former now eighth with 716 points. Seifert is on 712 points at ninth spot. South Africa batter Connor Esterhuizen has continued his meteoric rise in the rankings after helping the Proteas to a 3-2 series win over New Zealand. Esterhuizen, who was making his international debut, amassed a total of 200 runs in the series to be adjudged …

‘If I take Virat Kohli’s wicket, I will touch his feet — he is my idol’

3 min readMar 23, 2026 08:33 PM IST Punjab Kings’ new mystery spinner Vishal Nishad has a plan for when he faces his idol Virat Kohli this IPL season — and it involves a moment of respect on the pitch itself. “I haven’t met him yet, but I will face him twice this season,” Nishad said. “And if I take his wicket, I will touch his feet — because he is my idol,” he told Punjab Kings’ YouTube channel. As for his jersey number — he wanted Kohli’s 18, but Punjab teammate Priyansh had already claimed it. He has settled for 81 instead. “That’s why I took 81!” The 18-year-old from Uttar Pradesh, who has taken the IPL auction by surprise with his carrom ball, admits Kohli the batter and Kohli the person are two entirely separate things in his mind. “Off the field I will talk to him, try to learn from him,” he said. “On the field — same attitude. I will still try to get him out.” His biggest weapon is the …

‘Had told CSK to pick him straightaway’: Harbhajan Singh reveals first brush with Varun Chakaravarthy | Sports News

3 min readMar 16, 2026 11:21 AM IST Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh backed Varun Chakaravarthy to come back strong after a 2026 T20 World Cup campaign in which he fell short of his usually high standards. Chakaravarthy himself finished as the second highest wickettaker in the tournament and India won the title, but the spinner struggled to perform against the big teams. This is in stark contrast to his form going into the T20 World Cup, with Chakaravarthy being almost unplayable in the bilateral series that India played. Harbhajan revealed that he first noticed the Tamil Nadu cricketer in 2018 during a practice session at the nets of Chennai Super Kings. At that time, the mystery spinner was there as a net bowler, quietly testing his variations against established players. Harbhajan was impressed with Chakaravarthy’s control and variations even during that very early phase of his career. “First things first, he is a champion bowler. I first saw him at the Chennai Super Kings nets in 2018 where he was a practice bowler. I …
