Dug Dug is directed by Ritwik Pareek. Dug Dug gets India release The comedy-mystery-satire is slated to hit Indian screens on May 8, the makers announced Thursday. Inspired by true events, Dug Dug follows a bizarre phenomenon in a village where a deceased man’s motorbike is believed to grant wishes, provided devotees pray to it and offer alcohol. As word spreads and prayers begin to be answered the belief snowballs into a full-blown, commercialised religion. The film, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021, was screened at several international platforms including the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and the International Film Festival of Kerala. Over 40 filmmakers have issued a joint appeal following the alleged limited and inconvenient showtimes allotted to Kanu Behl-directed feature Agra, which released on November 14. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO On Monday, 46 leading voices of India’s independent film community, including Payal Kapadia, Rima Das, Nandita Das, Ajitpal Singh, Alankrita Shrivastava, Megha Ramaswamy, Raam Reddy, Ruchi Narain, Shaunak Sen, Shonali Bose, Varun Grover and Vasan Bala, came together to call for fair and equal opportunities for independent films to be showcased in cinemas across the country. This comes after Behl objected to the show timings given to Agra, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, and called for support on social media.
