The 44-year-old who has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, was given a wildcard entry for the women’s doubles and will be partnering with older sister Venus. Williams has won seven Wimbledon singles titles and ‌doubles titles alongside Venus. Serena’s last match at Wimbledon was in 2022 when she also needed a wildcard and lost to Harmony Tan in the first round. Wildcards are handed to players whose ranking does not allow them automatic entry and are usually reserved for high-profile players returning from ‌injury or those from the home nation. Earlier this month, Serena had made a comeback to professional tennis at the Queen’s Club Championships, playing doubles with Canadian Victoria Mboko. That partnership was cut short prematurely after Mboko suffered a knee injury that ruled her out of Wimbledon. Yuki Bhambri and Michael Venus exit Miami Open 2026 in first round

India’s Yuki Bhambri and his partner Michael Venus suffered a narrow first-round exit at the Miami Open 2026, going down in a closely fought doubles match. The Indian-Kiwi pair lost 6-4, 5-7, 13-15 to the Australian-Dutch combination of John-Patrick Smith and Sander Arends in their Round of 32 clash, which lasted one hour and 52 minutes. Bhambri and Venus started strongly, taking the opening set 6-4. However, their opponents responded in the second set, edging it 7-5 to force a deciding super tiebreak. The final set proved to be a tightly contested affair, with Smith and Arends eventually prevailing 15-13. The match remained closely balanced throughout, with both teams converting two break points each. Smith and Arends capitalised on two of their four opportunities, while Bhambri and Venus converted both chances they created. This was the first meeting between the two pairs, with little separating them across key statistical areas. Bhambri had entered the tournament on the back of a strong run earlier this month, reaching the semifinals at Indian Wells alongside Andre Goransson. The …

Venus Williams on becoming the oldest player to play the Australian Open: ‘Yay, yay for me’ | Tennis News

Seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams may have won an Australian Open singles title in her career, but that has not reduced her zest towards competing at the slam, starting on Sunday. Williams, who received a wildcard to play at this year’s tournament, will become the oldest player to compete at the Australian Open at the age of 45. “This is the greatest place on Earth to play. Venus Williams, 45, loses in first round of final Australian Open warm-up

Venus Williams was dumped out of the Hobart International in straight sets on Tuesday and two-time Grand Slam winner Barbora Krejcikova also lost in setbacks to their Australian Open preparations. It was the second consecutive tournament in which the 45-year-old Williams has crashed at the first hurdle after last week’s Auckland Classic. She survived 87 minutes against German world number 42 Tatjana Maria in Hobart before slumping 6-4, 6-3, having gamely saved six of nine break points. The American seven-time Grand Slam champion will now head to Melbourne for the Australian Open, where she has been handed a wildcard five years after she last played there. Williams, who has played only sporadically in recent years, will be the oldest woman ever at the opening Grand Slam of the year, which begins on Sunday. Mother-of-two Maria, herself 38, lined up a last-16 clash with Hungary’s Anna Bondar. The in-form Maria last year became the oldest WTA Tour singles winner since Serena Williams in 2020 when she won at the Queen’s Club in London. World number 55 …

Soviet Venus Lander Kosmos 482 Crashes to Earth After 53 Years in Orbit

The failed Soviet Venus lander Kosmos 482 has finally met its end after a remarkable 53-year journey in Earth orbit. Launched in 1972 under USSR’s Venera programme, the probe re-entered Earth’s atmosphere on May 10 at 2:24 a.m. ET (0624 GMT), with Russia’s space agency Roscosmos confirming its descent over the Indian Ocean, west of Jakarta, Indonesia. Although the debris was thought to have safely splashed down, other international space tracking organisations had pinpointed possible reentry sites as far afield as South Asia and the eastern Pacific, making the final impact location at least somewhat even hours after the event. Kosmos 482’s Fiery Fall Captured Before Impact, Sparking Concerns Over Space Junk Threat As per reports by Roscosmos and astronomer Gianluca Masi of the Virtual Telescope Project, the spacecraft was captured in a striking image during one of its final orbits over Rome. In the picture, Kosmos 482 appears as a dashed trail — a result of the probe streaking across a composite of four images. Originally intended to land on Venus, the lander had failed …

Soviet Venus Probe Kosmos 482 Set to Re-Enter Earth After 53 Years in Single Piece

Kosmos 482, under the USSR Venera program, was launched into space in 1972 to land on the second planet. However, the rocket malfunctioned and in Earth’s orbit, and it’s still revolving there ever since. Its rugged design lets it stay there and tolerate the atmosphere of Venus. This durability implies that it could survive reentry into Earth and remain intact with no impact. It is supposed to land either on 9 or 10 May without actually breaking anything up. The Aerospace Corporation is tracking it through the radar data provided by the U.S Space network surveillance. When and Where Might It Land? As per the current forecasts, ESA reports that the lander will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere on Saturday, May 10, 12:37 PM EST, with an error margin of ±20.6 hours. Due to an orbital inclination of 52 degrees, it is possible that it could land between the vast regions including Australia, South America and Africa, and in water covering these areas. On the map, it is between 52 degrees North and 52 degrees south. …
