LinkedIn will let your verified identity show up on other platforms

LinkedIn will let your verified identity show up on other platforms

LinkedIn is expanding its free verification system to the wider web, allowing external sites and platforms to integrate LinkedIn verification rather than building their own tool. Adobe is among the first companies to sign up. Adobe is integrating LinkedIn verification into its new Content Authenticity app and existing Behance portfolio platform, allowing creators who’ve gone through LinkedIn’s verification to display a “Verified on LinkedIn” badge on their profiles. If verified creators use Adobe’s digital Content Credentials tools, their identity will also appear alongside their work whenever it’s shared on LinkedIn. “It’s getting progressively cheaper and easier to pretend you’re someone you’re not online,” Oscar Rodriguez, LinkedIn’s vice president of trust, told The Verge. “You’re also able to do so in a way that looks more credible than ever before. Obviously authenticity is super important for LinkedIn, the platform is founded on this premise of trust.” “Online platforms across the board are facing the same issues around inauthenticity, so we believe that this collaboration with Adobe will be critical in the sense of empowering LinkedIn members …

Google Tests Verified Check Marks in Search Results to Help Users Identify Verified Sources

Alphabet’s Google is testing showing check marks next to certain companies on its search results, a company spokesperson said on Friday, in a move aimed at helping users identify verified sources and steer clear of fake websites. Fraudulent websites impersonating official businesses or services could creep up in online search results, leading users to view false information about the business, deceiving users and potentially harming the brand. “We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google,” the spokesperson said. Google already uses automated systems to identify pages with “scammy” or fraudulent content and prevent them from showing up in the search results. The Verge reported the development earlier on Friday, adding that it spotted blue verified checkmarks next to official site links for companies including Microsoft, Meta and Apple on search results. Only some users were able to see the feature, the Verge said, indicating Google has not rolled out the test widely yet. © Thomson …

Google is testing verified checkmarks in search

Google is experimenting with a new verification feature in search that should make it easier for users to avoid clicking on fake or fraudulent website links. Some people are seeing blue verified checkmarks beside business links in Google search results that indicate the company — like Meta or Apple — is genuine, and not some copycat attempting to benefit from a recognizable brand. “We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google,” Google public affairs spokesperson Molly Shaheen told The Verge. My colleague Jay Peters spotted checkmarks next to official site links for Microsoft, Meta, Epic Games, Apple, Amazon, and HP, but these were no longer displayed once he logged into a different Google account — meaning this experiment isn’t being rolled out widely just yet. Hovering over a checkmark will display a message that explains “Google’s signals suggest that this business is the business that it says it is,” which is determined by things like …

Uber is now asking riders to get verified as a safety measure for drivers

Uber announced a new rider verification feature aimed at giving drivers and couriers more peace of mind about their customers. The rideshare company has tried to fight fraud and improve safety on its platform through a variety of methods, including safety check-ins, PIN verification, and audio recordings of rides. But to date, most of these efforts have focused on the safety of riders, not drivers. Some drivers have urged Uber to do more for them, leading to today’s announcement about a new rider verification process. Uber customers who choose to be verified will have their personal information, like their name and phone number, cross-checked against third-party databases to make sure there aren’t any potential red flags. In addition, they can opt to upload their government-issued ID to the Uber app to further verify their identity. Customers who are verified will have a special badge attached to their account that will be visible to drivers before they accept trip requests. At a safety event today in Washington, DC, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company has …
