Suman Kalyanpur was born as Suman Hemmadi. She has recorded songs for movies in several languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Angika, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Odia and Punjabi. In one of her previous interviews, the late singer had emphasised on how her family did not approve of public performances before, despite having a strong inclination towards music.
