From Tamil cinema’s biggest screens to Europe’s racing circuits, Ajith Kumar is rewriting what a star can do | Tamil News

From Tamil cinema’s biggest screens to Europe’s racing circuits, Ajith Kumar is rewriting what a star can do | Tamil News

Three decades, 63 films, four Vijay Awards, a Padma Bhushan, and a Gentleman Driver of the Year award from Venice. Ajith Kumar has built a career that does not fit neatly into any single category, and at 55, he seems entirely uninterested in making it fit. Ajith Kumar came up through the ranks of Tamil cinema in the 1990s as a romantic lead, with films like Aasai, Kadhal Kottai, and Kaadhal Mannan giving him his early foothold. The shift toward mass action cinema happened gradually through the 2000s, with films like Villain, Dheena, and Vaali showing audiences a different dimension to him. But it was Mankatha in 2011 that gave him his most fan-favourite screen image. A morally grey antihero in a slick heist thriller, the film connected with audiences in a way that has not dimmed. It saw a re-release in January 2026 and opened strongly, a clear indication that the affection for that particular chapter of his career remains intact. His last two theatrical outings both came in 2025. Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh …

Tamil Nadu Box Office Comparison First 5 Days: Good Bad Ugly vs Vidaamuyarchi, The GOAT, Vettaiyan

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar‘s Good Bad Ugly, which hit theaters on April 10, is turning out to be a sensational box office winner and is already being called a career-defining film for the star. Right from Day 1, the film’s performance has been rock-solid and continues to draw crowds in huge numbers across Tamil Nadu. Let’s start comparing the film with other recent major releases in Tamil Nadu, including Ajith’s very own Vidaamuyarchi, Vijay’s The GOAT, and Rajnikanth’s Vettaiyan. Good Bad Ugly opened with an impressive Rs 28 crore on Day 1, which was slightly behind Vijay’s The GOAT (Rs 30 crore) but higher than Ajith’s own Vidaamuyarchi (Rs 25.5 crore). On Day 2, however, the film saw a dip with Rs 14.5 crore, trailing behind The GOAT (Rs 21 crore) and Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan (Rs 16.5 crore). By Day 3, Good Bad Ugly picked up steam again and collected Rs 18.5 crore. Though it didn’t surpass The GOAT (Rs 27 crore), the momentum continued. Day 4 saw another strong performance with Rs 23.5 crore, though …

Biggest Indian Openers of 2025 Worldwide Box Office: Where does Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly land in a list topped by Ram Charan’s Game Changer?

Biggest Indian Openers of 2025 Worldwide Box Office: Where does Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly land in a list topped by Ram Charan’s Game Changer?

The year 2025 has already been explosive for Indian cinema, and Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has been right at the center of it. In just four months, he delivered two big theatrical releases, Vidaamuyarchi in February and Good Bad Ugly in April and both of them created waves at the box office irrespective of the talk centered around them. Vidaamuyarchi kicked off Ajith’s year with an impressive Rs 47 crore gross worldwide on Day 1. But the actor outdid himself with Good Bad Ugly, which released on April 10 and opened with a roaring Rs 51 crore globally, marking his best career opening to date. The stylish actioner was not only bigger in scale but also more mass-friendly, helping Ajith surpass his own record within a span of two months. But did Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly top the charts? Not quite. Sitting in second place is Empuraan, the Mohanlal-Lijo Jose Pellissery collaboration, which dropped during the Eid weekend and opened to a powerful Rs 67 crore worldwide, benefiting from festival buzz and wide Malayalam diaspora …

Good Bad Ugly vs Vidaamuyarchi Tamil Nadu Box Office Day 2: Ajith Kumar’s mass-entertainer overpowers his action-thriller

Good Bad Ugly vs Vidaamuyarchi Tamil Nadu Box Office Day 2: Ajith Kumar’s mass-entertainer overpowers his action-thriller

Sometimes, it’s not just the star but the style of storytelling that pulls the audience to theaters. Ajith Kumar, one of Tamil cinema’s most bankable names, has proven this again, this time with himself as competition with his last release.  Released on April 10, Good Bad Ugly, a flashy action-comedy directed by Adhik Ravichandran, came with zero subtlety and 100% masala. Ajith’s triple avatar, coupled with high-octane stunts and nostalgia-heavy moments, resonated instantly with fans. By the end of Day 1, the film clocked Rs 28 crore in Tamil Nadu and Rs 51 crore worldwide. On Day 2, it maintained momentum with another solid Rs 15 crore in the home state and Rs 24 crore globally. Contrast this with Vidaamuyarchi, Ajith’s Pongal release helmed by Magizh Thirumeni, which is a serious, layered action-thriller co-starring Arjun Sarja, Trisha, and Regina Cassandra. With a plot focused on a missing wife and a shadowy villain, it had a more subdued tone and appeal. While the film had a decent start with Rs 25.5 crore in Tamil Nadu and …

Tamil Nadu Box Office Comparison First 2 Days: Good Bad Ugly vs Vidaamuyarchi vs The Goat vs Vettaiyan

Tamil Nadu Box Office Comparison First 2 Days: Good Bad Ugly vs Vidaamuyarchi vs The Goat vs Vettaiyan

Sometimes, silence makes the loudest noise and Tamil star Ajith Kumar’s Good Bad Ugly is doing exactly that at the box office. Released on April 10 without the usual marketing blitz, the film roared into theaters and stunned trade circles with its numbers. The Ajith-starrer is now being compared with some of the biggest Tamil films of the year, including his own Vidaamuyarchi, Vijay’s The GOAT, and Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan and the results are fascinating. Day 1 saw Good Bad Ugly collect a whopping Rs 28 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office, outshining Vidaamuyarchi’s Rs 25.5 crore debut. What’s even more impressive is that it nearly matched The GOAT’s Rs 30 crore opening, a film that came with massive promotions. Vettaiyan, despite Rajinikanth’s aura, started lower with Rs 19.75 crore. For a film that didn’t even knock on the doors of promotional campaigns before release, Good Bad Ugly made a thunderous entrance. The second-day numbers only added fuel to the fire. Good Bad Ugly brought in another Rs 15 crore, holding stronger than Vidaamuyarchi, …
