A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Thursday recovered a body from the debris of a building that collapsed at a waste management facility in Pimpri Chinchwad near Pune, officials said. Nine people have been rescued so far as a multi-agency rescue operation continues at the site. The three-storey building, located near a waste-to-energy plant at Moshi, collapsed on Wednesday afternoon after a large mound of garbage crashed onto it. Several workers were trapped under the debris following the incident. Rescue teams search for trapped workers According to officials, seven people were rescued from the debris within hours of the collapse, while two more survivors were pulled out after midnight. A senior NDRF official said a body was recovered from the site on Thursday morning as teams continued searching for those still trapped. “We suspect that 7 to 8 people are still trapped under the debris. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Wednesday withdrew a proposal to increase the monthly fuel allowance for civic officials to Rs 50,000 following criticism and concerns over fuel conservation. The proposal had appeared on the agenda during a Standing Committee meeting and quickly sparked public debate. PCMC Commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi confirmed that the proposal was cancelled during the meeting.
