“Selectors Offered Him Options”: Behind Rohit Sharma’s Retirement, Virender Sehwag’s Theory

Former India opener Virender Sehwag hailed Rohit Sharma after the skipper announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday. Taking to Instagram, the 38-year-old called time on his Test career and also stated that he will continue to represent India in the ODIs. The announcement came as a big surprise as the selectors are currently finalising the squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England as Rohit’s absence means that the committee also needs to find a new captain. Speaking on Cricbuzz, Sehwag stated that Rohit’s decision is a surprise but he must have taken this call after having a discussion with the selectors. “It’s amazing, because I had also heard those things-like how he was preparing for the England tour, or during the Australia tour when he didn’t play the last Test match, he was saying, ‘I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here. Don’t pretend like I’ve retired.’” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz. “But what might have happened during this time? What happened is probably this: when the selectors made their decision-maybe …

“Pakistan Will Never Forget…”: Virender Sehwag, Neeraj Chopra’s Blunt Takes As India-Pakistan Tension Rise

Former India star and batting legend Virender Sehwag on Thursday blamed Pakistan for ‘choosing war’ when it had the “opportunity to keep quiet”. On Thursday, Pakistan launched attacks on Jammu as well as several military stations near the western border, but those were successfully foiled by India’s air defence systems. Pakistan triggered the action, and the Indian forces launched retaliatory attacks. Sehwag was among several sportsters who took to social media to blame Pakistan and express support to the Indian armed forces for thwarting the attacks. “War has been chosen by Pakistan when they had an opportunity to keep quiet. They have escalated to save their terrorist assets, which speaks so much about them. Our forces will reply most appropriately, a manner Pakistan will never forget,” Sehwag wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter. Virender Sehwag Finally Breaks Silence On Why Delhi Didn’t Sign Virat Kohli In 2008: “Our Thinking…”

Virender Sehwag has lifted the lid on the Delhi Daredevils’ (now Delhi Capitals) decision of not buying Virat Kohli during the first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) draft in 2008. Sehwag was the first-ever captain of the franchise after being signed as an “icon player” ahead of the inaugural season. The franchise had the opportunity to sign a local player in Kohli, but decided to go for left-arm pacer Pradeep Sangwan instead. In the end, Kohli was picked by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and the rest as they say is history. Kohli has been a one-franchise man throughout his career so far, making him the only player to play for one team for 18 seasons. He has even led RCB for nine seasons before stepping down in 2022. “So you are questioning my captaincy,” Sehwag said jokingly after the hosts on Cricbuzz questioned the logic behind the call to snub Kohli during the draft. Sehwag revealed that since Delhi had plenty of top-order batters, they picked Sangwan.  “This did not happen on the …

‘Useless batting strike rate’: Virender Sehwag slams Ravindra Jadeja, questions Sam Curran’s role at No. 3 in CSK vs SRH match | Ipl News

In a scathing assessment of Chennai Super Kings’ seventh defeat of the IPL 2025 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, Virender Sehwag did not mince words as he tore into the roles of Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in the top-order during a five-wicket loss. Batting first at their Chepauk home ground with a rejigged line-up, CSK failed to put on another big score, bundling out for 154. CSK tried out Curran at three before Jadeja walked in at number four again. While Curran was dismissed for 9 off 10 balls, Jadeja failed to switch gears, falling for 21 off 17. “Wasn’t I saying that I feel like going home midway through the tournament. CSK’s batters are also perhaps thinking that way. Their batters are wondering when will they get back home? When will the tournament end? At least one of them should have taken responsibility. Jadeja has got a useless strike rate, but at least try to stay out there till the 15th or 18th over. The rest of the batters can then play …

Virender Sehwag Gives Big Warning To Vaibhav Suryavanshi, It Has A ‘Virat Kohli’ Twist

Virender Sehwag Gives Big Warning To Vaibhav Suryavanshi, It Has A ‘Virat Kohli’ Twist

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, becoming the youngest player to play in the tournament. The 14-year-old made a sensational mark in his very first innings, smashing a six off his first ball. But while he made a 20-ball 34 in his first knock, he could manage just 16 off 12 in his second match, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Legendary former India opener Virender Sehwag has advised Suryavanshi to keep his feet on the ground and not get carried away by fame, as well as take inspiration from Virat Kohli. Sehwag warned Suryavanshi to remain grounded and accept criticism regarding his game, regardless of fame. “If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticised for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player,” Sehwag stated, speaking on Cricbuzz. Suryavanshi has …

Virender Sehwag Brutally Trolls Ex-Teammate For Mentioning MS Dhoni And CSK. Reason Is…

Former India captain Virender Sehwag showed no mercy while mocking ex-teammate Amit Mishra during a live YouTube session. The incident after the host of the show asked Mishra whether SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) can still qualify for the playoffs. SRH sit second to bottom with just two wins from their first eight matches, following their defeat to the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday. While speaking during a live post-match session on Cricbuzz, Mishra diverted from the topic, and instead opened up on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their chances of making it to the playoffs. “I think it’s almost impossible. The brand of cricket they are playing right now, it will be hard to win all six matches. For that, they would have to do well in all departments. If Dhoni comes to bat up the order, he needs to play at least 30 balls, with all due to respect to their top order,” said. However, he was interrupted by Sehwag, who reminded him that the question was about SRH and not Dhoni or …

“Those Responsible Will Pay”: Gautam Gambhir Leads Cricketers’ Reactions To Pahalgam Attack

Former and current players of the Indian Cricket Team, along with national team head coach Gautam Gambhir, expressed their sorrow and anguish over the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. Former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh took to his official media handle and said that he was “deeply saddened” after coming across the terror attack news in J&K. “Deeply saddened by the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. ‘Holiday, free drinks’: Why is Virender Sehwag always after Glenn Maxwell, what’s the history? | Ipl News

Before we get to the past, here is the latest episode of the Sehwag vs Maxwell saga. This time around, Sehwag added RCB’s Liam Livingstone to the mix. “I feel like Maxwell and Livingstone’s hunger is gone. Yeh yaha holiday manane aate hai, holiday banaakar chale jaate hain (they just come here for a holiday). They arrive, have their fun, and leave. There’s no visible desire to fight for the team,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz. “They just talk about winning but don’t perform. I have spent time with many overseas players who wanted to win the tournament. I don’t see that mindset in them,” recalling an example from his time at Punjab Kings, highlighting South African batter David Miller’s work ethic. “David Miller used to get turning pitches prepared in the Punjab nets. He would practise against spinners regularly to adapt to Indian conditions. He was focused on improving himself.” In the past, Sehwag has called Maxwell a “10-crore cheerleader”. In 2020, Sehwag even accused Maxwell of being more interested in golf and drinking. Story …

‘No common sense’: Virender Sehwag slams RCB’s poor batting show in Bengaluru defeat to PBKS | Ipl News

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s woes at home extended to a third match in succession as they suffered a five-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday. Sent in to bat first after a two-hour delay to rain, the RCB batters imploded during a 14-over game, making only 95/9 in the allotted period. None of the top-order batters got going, with openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli falling to rash pull strokes within the first three overs. While captain Rajat Patidar brief knock and Tim David’s late surge helped RCB put on a fight, middle-order bats Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma and Krunal Pandya threw away their wickets. Former India opener Virender Sehwag slammed RCB for another abject batting display at home. “RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball. At least one batter should’ve used common sense. If they had wickets in hand, they could have reached 110 or 120 in 14 overs, which would have given …

Virender Sehwag’s ‘Jane Ka Time Aa Gaya’ Take Turns Prophetic As Rohit Sharma Fails Once Again

Rohit Sharma in action for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025© AFP Former Indian cricket team batter Virender Sehwag was extremely critical of Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians star continued to struggle for runs in the ongoing IPL 2025. Rohit, who came into the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad with 56 runs in five innings, was dismissed for 26 by Pat Cummins. Rohit’s dismal run has resulted in a lot of criticism from both experts as well as fans and Sehwag warned him that he needs to safeguard his legacy. Sehwag pointed out that he has just one 400-plus run IPL season and even hinted that it is time for Rohit to retire from the format. “If you look at Rohit’s IPL numbers in the last 10 years, he scored more than 400 runs only once. So he is not the kind of player who thinks that I need to score 500 or 700 runs. If he thinks, he might. When he became the Indian captain, he said that he wanted to be the …
