Amid soaring temperatures, tourists are increasingly heading to hill destinations, leading to a sharp rise in visitor numbers in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district. Kullu and Shimla face increasing traffic as tourist season peaks (PTI) Speaking to ANI, Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP) Madan Lal Kaushal said tourist footfall has surged significantly over the past few days, with nearly 25,000 to 27,000 small and large vehicles entering the district. MUMBAI: A hi-tech facial recognition system that has improved visitor screening at Mantralaya and curbed footfalls has thrown up an unexpected challenge – over 10,000 visitors have failed to return their RFID entry passes, a key component of the security set-up. Following a series of honey bee attacks near the Ajanta Caves, the forest department has urged visitors to take precautions and avoid actions that may attract bees, reported the PTI. Issuing an advisory for the visitors, the officials suggested that the tourists should avoid using strong perfumes and making noise during their visits. A recent inspection in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district in Maharashtra covered caves 1 to 26 within the complex. Officials identified three honeycombs—one near Cave 26 and two near Cave 10. Authorities have informed the Archaeological Survey of India and requested steps to control the growth of the combs and safely relocate the bees, according to the PTI. In 2025, only 4.7 lakh Bangladeshi visitors arrived in India, down from 17.5 lakh in 2024 and 21.2 lakh in 2023. Between 2017 and 2023, Bangladesh consistently contributed around 20-23 per cent of total foreign tourists, making it India’s largest source of FTAs. This means roughly one in four to five foreign tourists to India came from Bangladesh. Starting 2017, over 20 lakh Bangladeshis were arriving in India each year until 2020.
