Yashasvi Jaiswal on Rajasthan Royals’ playoff chances after LSG win

3 min readMay 20, 2026 12:50 PM IST With their seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, Rajasthan Royals recorded their seventh win of the season and now need to win their last match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday to qualify for the play-offs without depending on other results. Punjab Kings are currently on 13 points, and with their last match against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday, the maximum they can reach is 15 points. With the last match of their campaign like a pre-quarterfinal, stand-in skipper Yashasvi Jaiswal shared how the team needs to be balanced and enjoy the game rather than dwelling on the pressure. “I think I just want to play with a smile and enjoy the beautiful game of cricket. I think that is the fun if we go and we’ll enjoy and relax with a smile, even if things are going our way, if it doesn’t as well. We need to be balanced and enjoy the game and enjoy the crowd, the fans’ love and …

Ryan Rickelton: The weightlifter who became Mumbai Indians’ most valuable batsman | Cricket News

4 min readMumbaiMay 5, 2026 08:43 PM IST Neil McKenzie has known Ryan Rickelton since before either of them had heard of the IPL. What he remembers first is not a cricket shot but a weight rack. “He was a weightlifter at around 14, but like many South African kids, he was multi-skilled,” McKenzie, former South Africa batter and mentor, tells The Indian Express. “He played squash, a lot of other sports, and that helped him massively. That base of strength and core stability from weight training has helped his power and balance. He’s always been very disciplined about his training. Probably one of the fittest and strongest guys you’ll find. It all accumulates into a well-balanced athlete, and that shows in how robust he is in the middle.” That robustness has been Mumbai Indians’ one fixed point in an otherwise dissolving season. Rohit Sharma has played three matches, a hamstring keeping him out. Suryakumar Yadav has not found form. Hardik Pandya has not consistently delivered. Three wins in ten matches, playoff qualification hanging by …

Ro-Ry, MI’s 6-hitting machines get roaring, as their talisman Rohit Sharma returns

Ro-Ry, MI’s 6-hitting machines get roaring, as their talisman Rohit Sharma returns

Synopsis: A 143-run stand for the opening wicket between Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma helps MI chase down 229 runs against LSG. Sunday may have been optional nets, but Rohit Sharma spent an hour honing his batting skills under the evening sun. It was perhaps an indication that he was fit and raring to go, and on Monday, with Mumbai Indians (MI) needing to win to halt their losing streak, he delivered with the bat, much to the delight of the capacity crowd at the venue. The Wankhede Stadium roared in delight as Rohit Sharma made his way down the stairs and into the middle to bat for the first time in three weeks. Playing as an impact sub, he would have hoped for an easy chase to mark his return, but his bowlers were not as grateful, conceding 228 runs in 20 overs. If there was pressure, it did not show early. It was Ryan Rickelton who took charge. Fresh from a century in the previous home game against SRH, the left-hander started briskly, …

Shah Rukh Khan ne raada kar diya: Former ACP recalls superstar’s 2012 brawl at Wankhede Stadium

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s infamous 2012 showdown at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai continues to be one of the most headline-grabbing off-field controversies in IPL history. Now, years later, former ACP Iqbal Shaikh has revisited the incident, shedding light on the “miscommunication” that quickly spiralled into a full-blown spat. Shah Rukh Khan was banned from the Wankhede Stadium after he was involved in a brawl in 2012. Ex ACP on Shah Rukh’s clash at Wankhede stadium Iqbal Shaikh, who was serving as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of the area at the time, recently revisited the incident involving Shah Rukh during an appearance on a podcast posted on Subhojit Ghosh’s YouTube channel. Looking back at the incident, Iqbal Shaikh said, “It was more of a miscommunication involving Shah Rukh Khan and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials. I was the divisional ACP of the area where Wankhede Stadium falls, which is why I was present there. When I reached the main gate, an MCA colleague informed me that Shah Rukh ne raada kar diya …

Sunrisers batting might comes to the fore in big chase as Mumbai Indians continue to slide

Synopsis: Travishek’s 129-run stand and Heinrich Klaasen’s unbeaten 65 powers SRH to 6-wicket win over MI. Exactly a month ago, the Mumbai Indians won their first IPL 2026 match at home – a six-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. The great start raised early hopes about another tilt at the title. One month later, the five-time champions slumped to their sixth loss of the season, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad and further worsening their Playoff qualification chances. IPL 2026 had so far seen only one-half of the Abhishek Sharma-Travis Head combination succeed, with the Indian making all the running. But on Wednesday, against an MI attack in desperate need of a change in fortunes, it was Head’s time to shine under the bright lights and lay the ideal foundation for the 244-run chase. The Australians’ innings was one of brute force, but not chanceless as Naman Dhir dropped him on 2 off Trent Boult in the third over, and to make matters worse, the ball went for a six. He made the hosts pay for the …

Jayawardene defends Mumbai Indians using concussion sub for Mitchell Santner | Cricket News

3 min readApr 24, 2026 11:26 AM IST One of the talking points in Mumbai’s Indians’ 103-run defeat against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday evening at the Wankhede Stadium was the home side’s use of Shardul Thakur as a “concussion substitute” after Mitchell Santner injured himself. The New Zealand captain injured himself in the 17th over of the first innings when he dived to catch CSK’s Kartik Sharma in the deep off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling. While Santner managed to hang on to the catch, the Mumbai Indians spinner injured himself in the process. Replays show that he hit the left side of his head on the ground after the same time his shoulder hit the ground hard. But in the game, the head touching the ground was not as visible as his shoulder smashing into the ground. Mahela Jayawardene reacts to Hardik Pandya’s poor form in IPL 2026: ‘Not a concern’

Mahela Jayawardene reacts to Hardik Pandya’s poor form in IPL 2026: ‘Not a concern’

4 min readApr 24, 2026 08:42 AM IST The Mumbai Indians slumped to their fifth defeat in seven matches after losing to the Chennai Super Kings by 103 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. The loss left them in eighth place on the points table with two wins in seven matches, and the prospects of making the Playoffs already hanging in the balance. A major concern for the five-time champions has been the form of captain Hardik Pandya, who has made 97 runs and taken three wickets in six matches so far in IPL 2026. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene, though, dismissed all worries of his form, adding that collectively, MI had not done so far in the tournament. “I don’t think, to be honest. It is not a concern. He started well. In the first few games with the ball, he bowled really well. Overall, as a unit, we haven’t been consistent. But we haven’t picked up early wickets, we haven’t managed to control things in the way conditions and stuff like that, so …

‘Cricket is played on the day, not on paper’

‘Cricket is played on the day, not on paper’

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) produced arguably their most complete performance of IPL 2026, trouncing the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 103 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. Barring a 73-run stand for the third wicket between Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, it was a batting meltdown for the hosts, who capitulated from 84/3 to 104 all out, handing the visitors a thumping win. One of the stars for CSK was Akeal Hosein, whose spell of 4/17 in four overs broke the back of the hosts’ batting line-up. Speaking about MI’s capitulation in the second innings, he said that while teams can perhaps look evenly-matched on paper, it is who executes the plan on that day that decides the match result. “I mean, at the end of the day, cricket is played on the day, not on paper. And when you go out as a bowling unit, and you execute as well as you did today, there’s nothing to be surprised about when you see the opposition make such a score. It’s just about, you …

Why the 101 not out against MI is one of Sanju Samson’s finest hundreds

Why the 101 not out against MI is one of Sanju Samson’s finest hundreds

Synopsis: Sanju Samson’s 101 and Akeal Hosein’s 4/17 help CSK beat MI by 103 runs to claim their third win of IPL 2026. For the first time in 15 seasons, an MI–CSK IPL 2026 clash was marked by the absence of both Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. It required newer stars to emerge, and Sanju Samson and Akeal Hosein led the way to inflict a fifth loss in seven matches for MI. As Samson made his way into the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, a rush of positive memories may have crossed his mind. This was the venue where, less than two months ago, his blistering 89 off 42 balls had set up India’s T20 World Cup semifinal win over England. If the innings against England was about fearless aggression, then the knock against MI was a blend of caution and calculated attack. His unbeaten 101 runs in 54 balls on Thursday may have had 10 fours and six sixes, but it also had 25 singles as he had to navigate his stay in the middle, …

Injured Ayush Mhatre likely to be out of IPL 2026 for three weeks

Injured Ayush Mhatre likely to be out of IPL 2026 for three weeks

3 min readApr 19, 2026 02:02 PM IST Ayush Mhatre is likely to be out of action for three weeks after the batsman tore his left hamstring in Chennai Super Kings defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday. The 18-year-old, who has been on a sparkling form, is set to undergo scans on Monday when he reaches Mumbai, where the Super Kings play their next fixture on Thursday. Mhatre, who came in as Impact Player during the chase, was on 30 off 12 deliveries when he injured his hamstring while running a double. He appeared in pain and was immediately attended by team’s physiotherapist Tommy Simsek. The Indian Express understands that Mhatre’s injury isn’t as bad as one feared with the batsman not experiencing any pain as of now. However, the real extent of the injury would be known only on Monday when he goes for a test. That he has been able to walk without any pain suggests, there is a chance of Mhatre to comeback at a later stage of the tournament. ALSO READ | …
