To address the needs of the increasing number of cancer patients from across the region and provide better facilities and reduce the waiting time of patients, the Radiation Oncology OPD of GMCH-32 has been shifted to the South Campus Hospital in Sector 48. “All day care services, as well as wards, have been shifted here, with facilities for registration, sample collection, tests, all available to patients here, including the latest machines. We are already running a general and geriatric OPD here, with a schedule of specialists from various departments in place. We want more patients from nearby areas to benefit from the services here. This will save their time, and in case of specific tests, they are referred to GMCH-32. At present, we have an ECG and portable X-Ray machine here. Purchase of an X-Ray machine and more equipment is on the cards. This shift strives to improve healthcare services and better treatment facilities for cancer patients. BMC elections 2026: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections 2026 will be held on January 15, 2016. Established in 1873, India’s financial capital’s civic body is the country’s largest and richest, with a budget dwarfing that of several states. The deadline for withdrawing nominations was on January 2, while the counting of votes for the BMC election is scheduled for January 16. Structure of BMC and how elections are conducted: Mumbai is divided into 24 administrative wards. From sewerage operations to public health, the BMC handles local civic issues in these wards, named alphabetically from A to T. Each administrative ward is further subdivided into smaller electoral wards for which corporators are elected. There are 227 of these electoral wards. Out of these, 113 fall under the General Category, while 114 are reserved for women, including women belonging to the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes, and the Backwards Class of Citizens. Special elections to three local body wards in Kerala where the 2025 local body elections were postponed following the deaths of candidates will be held on Monday (January 12). The wards include Vizhinjam in the high-profile Thiruvananthapuram Corporation where the BJP had wrested power for the first time. Elections will be held on Sunday to the Payimbadam ward of Moothedam grama panchayat in Malappuram district, Onakkoor ward of Pambakkuda grama panchayat in Ernakulam, and the Vizhinjam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Polling will begin at 7 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. The votes will be counted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (January 13), State Election Commissioner (SEC) A. Shajahan said. The counting of votes for Delhi MCD bypolls to 12 wards began on Wednesday, amid tight security at 10 counting centres in Delhi, reported news agency PTI. Of the 12 wards where voting was held on November 30, nine were earlier held by the BJP and the remaining by AAP. The State Election Commission, Delhi, has made all arrangements for vote counting. Ten counting centres have been set up at Kanjhawala, Pitampura, Bharat Nagar, Civil Lines, Rouse Avenue, Dwarka, Najafgarh, Gole Market, Pushp Vihar and Mandawali. Each centre will handle counting for specific wards, with strong room facilities and secure entry and exit protocols, the Commission said in a statement. The strong rooms where the EVMs are stored after polling were secured with adequate security measures, including round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and the deployment of paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel. The State government on Monday issued multiple notifications effecting changes to the names of 14 ward and boundaries of six, spread across five city corporations. This follows a controversy over a few ward names and many pointing to anomalies in boundaries even in the final notification, sources said. For instance, MLA for Yelahanka S.R. Vishwanath had raised objection to a ward in his constituency being named Aakash. It has now been renamed Aero City Ward. Yelahanka Old Town has been renamed Raja Kempegowda ward and the ward earlier named after Bengaluru’s founder has now been renamed Chowdeshwari Ward. While six wards in East Corporation, four in North, three in West, and one in South have been renamed, boundaries of four wards in South Corporation and two in Central Corporation have been changed. The State government on September 30 issued a draft notification with 368 wards across five corporations and issued a final notification with 369 wards on November 19. Voting for bypolls in 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) began on Sunday morning amid tight security. The voting will end at 5.30 pm. The polls are expected to reveal the voters` mood in the national capital after a comprehensive victory of the BJP in the assembly election earlier this year. The State Election Commission has set up 580 booths across 143 polling locations for the 12 bypolls. A total of 2,320 election commission personnel, 580 Home Guards and 2,265 other personnel, along with 13 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces are facilitating the electoral exercise. The Congress on Thursday released its final list of 22 candidates for the Kochi Corporation elections, withholding announcements for two wards — Cheralayi and Ravipuram.
