India didn’t lose to Ireland and England. It lost to its own excuses

India didn’t lose to Ireland and England. It lost to its own excuses

For a few games during the Ireland-England tour, India had to hide at least four players when fielding – a visibly out-of-shape group, all blessed with exceptional cricketing skills. Even the fitter ones in the team had low energy levels, and their adaptability to the English pitches was unprofessionally slow. The close to 20-odd days that the Indian team got to seamlessly switch from two months of IPL cricket, mostly played on flat tracks, to the lively English-Irish pitches wasn’t enough. India would lose 6 out of 7 T20s and 2 out of 3 ODIs. The unending intrigue-filled RoKo saga or the wins on the ongoing Zimbabwe tour don’t seem to gloss over the virtual wash-out in the UK. What was to be a fresh beginning under a new captain and the international launch of IPL stars got a brutal reality check. What was to be the delicate pruning of India’s fresh saplings, their first taste of the sun, turned into a routine weeding process. As those in the know say: “After the England tour, …

India vs Australia, 3rd T20: Washington Sundar stakes claim in India’s future plans with match-winning 49 as visitors level series with 5-wicket win | Cricket News

India vs Australia, 3rd T20: Washington Sundar stakes claim in India’s future plans with match-winning 49 as visitors level series with 5-wicket win | Cricket News

Under the stunning skies over the Bellerive Oval, Washington Sundar splashed a bright palette of colours into his T20 career. He crunched an undefeated 49 off 23 balls to orchestrate a five-wicket victory, pursuing 187, over an unusually slipshod Australia to keep the series 1-1 before the three-day breather and triple-header that follows. Much of Washington’s 54-game-T20I career, scattered across eight years, has not produced a match that the audience would associate instantly with him. Hobart certainly would be one. Washington is like the young and intrepid actor, acing a different act in every role. Last year, around the same time, he was foxing New Zealand batsmen with bounce and drift at home. At the start of this season, he was showing Ben Stokes and co. the different layers of his batting. He could stonewall and etch a hundred in five hours, he could smear three sixes on the rub too. He could be an anchor and accumulator, and aggressor and finisher too, with a knack of staying composed in nerve-snapping situations. The list features …

KL Rahul to pip Sarfaraz Khan, 3 changes likely; India’s probable Playing XI for 2nd Test against New Zealand – India TV

Despite a valiant effort in the second innings, the hosts could set up a target of 107 and ended up losing by eight wickets.  As India look to bounce back, they will be having some tough selection calls to make for the second match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, starting on October 24. The biggest among them would be deciding on who to keep in the Playing XI between Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul as Shubman Gill looks poised for a return.  India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has hinted that Gill, who missed the opener due to a stiff neck, is likely to get fit in time for the second game. Two days ahead of the clash, the assistant coach said on Gill, “He’s batted last week in Bangalore, he had a few nets. He’s got a little …
