Govt puts on hold new wastage norms for gold, silver jewellery exports till July 31 | Business News

The government on Tuesday put on hold the new norms for permissible wastage amount for gold, silver and platinum content in jewellery exports until July 31, 2024, just a day after the notification after the gems and jewellery industry raised serious concerns on the new standards. The government on Monday notified revised norms related to the permissible amount of wastage and standard input output with regard to the export of gold and silver jewellery. The industry claimed that the norms were notified without any consultation. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Tuesday that now keeping in view the representation of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council highlighting the difficulties to their sector from the revised norms, another opportunity will be given to the industry for submission of their views. ‘Reducing wastage, water conservation way forward to resolve Cauvery crisis’

Nataraj, former Director, Madras Institute of Development Studies, said that it was the way forward to resolve Cauvery crisis. He was speaking at a programme to mark the release of Kananda version of the book Cauvery Dispute: A Historical Perspective, here on Sunday. The book has been authored by former Commissioner of Police of Mysuru C. Chandrashekar. Mr. Nataraj said the book provides a good historical perspective but correcting historical wrongs was unrealistic. The way forward was to reduce wastage, promote conservation, and harness the available water optimally. “There is wastage of water on both the sides – Karnataka and Tamil Nadu – and this has to be curbed going forward,” he added. If anyone found using water for the above-mentioned purposes will be fined an amount of Rs 5000 penalty. Blood banks asked to install sterile connecting devices to avoid wastage

In a bid to avoid wastage of blood and multiple donor exposure during blood transfusion, the state health department has made it mandatory for blood banks across the state to install sterile connecting devices for aliquots of whole blood bags, state health department officials said on Thursday. Officials said that a whole blood bag of 350 ml is issued to paediatric patients but at a time, they require transfusion of blood in small quantities of around 50 to 100 ml. No Wastage of Covid Vaccines in Govt Buffer Stock Due to Expiry: Govt in Lok Sabha

There has been no wastage of COVID-19 vaccines in the government buffer stock due to expiry, Union minister Bharati Pravin Pawar informed Lok Sabha on Friday. The central government closely monitors COVID-19 vaccine stocks in states and Union territories so as to ensure their optimal utilisation and minimal wastage, Pawar said in written reply to a question. States and UTs have also been advised to review programme coverage and vaccine wastage on a daily basis and redistribute the vaccine stock if required for their optimal utilisation. To ensure utilisation of the near expiry vaccine, they have been supported for intra- and inter-state transfer, the short expiry vaccines are also replaced by manufacturers, the Union Minister of State for Health said. The national regulator, Central Drugs Standard Organisation, prescribed the shelf life of Covishield vaccine as nine months and Covaxin vaccine as 12 months from the date of manufacture, Pawar stated.
