Two workers lost their lives on Tuesday, as a plastic waste recycling unit at Dakshin Energy in Parwada, Andhra Pradesh, got engulfed in flames. The factory, located in Anakpalli district’s Pharma City, is a small-scale industry that extracts pyrolysis oil from plastic waste, which is used as a raw material in biodiesel production, Parawada Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) B Mohan Rao told news agency PTI. “Flames apparently emerged during the process, possibly due to gas, and engulfed the two workers. PUNE: Extensive dumping of garbage, including large quantities of biomedical waste, across forested stretches of Katraj ghat has triggered environmental and public health concerns, prompting plans for a large-scale cleanup drive involving citizens, activists, civic authorities and the forest department. Mechanised cleaning operations in Katraj Ghat will begin on June 20, followed by citizen-driven cleanliness drive on June 21, wherein nearly 500 volunteers are expected to participate.
