The Indian Vikings nobody watched

The Indian Vikings nobody watched

Watching their own sport go viral, care of a Norwegian football celebration, cracked Ujjwal Kumar Singh and his teammate Lakshay up. The Viking Row craze had swept Europe well before Erling Haaland’s men scalped Brazil at the World Cup, and India’s own version of it had already gone into the history books a little more quietly. “We watched the Viking Row videos, and it was great to see them go viral,” Ujjwal said. “Unfortunately, when we row on water, we are almost collapsing by the end of the race to scream chants!” He laughed at the thought, no synced chants, no battleship backdrop, just two exhausted men crossing a finish line. That finish line came at the World Rowing Cup 3 in Lucerne this June, where Ujjwal and Lakshay, a lightweight double sculls pair, rowed to gold in 6:26.09, a time that put two boats behind them no Indian crew had ever beaten before: Hong Kong, the dominant force in Asian rowing, and the Netherlands, India’s first European scalp. It sets up a rivalry to …

Joseph Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan leak case, after being told by the prosecution that as many as 1.2 crore people had watched the movie online even before it could be certified for public exhibition by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and released officially. Justice C. Kumarappan dismissed the bail petitions filed by the fourth accused S. Rajini and 11th accused Jayaprakash after taking note of the serious charge that the first petitioner’s brother, who was a freelance film editor and the prime accused in the case, had stolen the movie clips in a hard drive from an edit suite and thereafter, the movie had been uploaded in full to Google drive. A government counsel told the court that the prime accused and two of his brothers were instrumental in clubbing all the disjointed movie clips into one before uploading them …

How a coach who watched Maradona on a village TV put Cape Verde into the knockouts

How a coach who watched Maradona on a village TV put Cape Verde into the knockouts

In the village of Povoacao Velha on the island of Boa Vista, there was one television set. Not one per street. One. On World Cup nights, the neighbours gathered around it, and a boy called Pedro Leitao Brito watched Maradona and Matthaus. His mother made footballs from socks. Pedro Leitao Brito grew up to captain Cape Verde for 11 years. He is now known as Bubista, the Creole name for the island where he was born. On Friday night in Houston, at 56 years old, he stood on the touchline and watched his country reach the knockout rounds of the World Cup for the first time. Cape Verde drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia. In Guadalajara, simultaneously, Spain beat Uruguay 1-0. The Blue Sharks went through as group runners-up. In their first World Cup. At the seventh attempt to qualify for one. This is what twenty years of patient work looks like from the outside. From the inside it looks like Logan Costa. ALSO READ | ‘The Voice’ in the Cape Verde goal: Vozinha, who made …

Never watched football? Start here — A beginner’s guide to FIFA World Cup | Football News

After a wait of four years, it’s here! The FIFA World Cup of 2026 promises to be bigger than ever and a lot messier too as we have witnessed already. It’s the time that football fans briefly change affiliations. Arsenal and Manchester United fans could find themselves uniting in their love for the England national team. Someone sitting in India could find common cause with a Brazilian in the beautiful flair in the way the Brazilian football team plays. But if you have never watched a FIFA World Cup (and are being forced to do so out of peer pressure), worry not. We have you covered. With our beginner’s guide to the FIFA World Cup, here’s how you can sound much savvier about the spectacle. What’s in a name? They have their own version …

I watched Obsession. The CBFC watched it too and decided what other adults could see | Opinion-entertainment News

I watched Obsession. The CBFC watched it too and decided what other adults could see | Opinion-entertainment News

I walked into the theater to watch Obsession completely blind. No trailers, no plot synopses, no algorithmic hype. And for two hours, I was utterly transfixed. It is a terrific, deeply unsettling film layered with complex psychological undercurrents. Curry Barker’s film, made in 20 days on a $750,000 budget by a 26-year-old YouTube filmmaker, is a horror film about Bear (Michael Johnston), a music store employee who buys a supernatural toy called the “One Wish Willow” and wishes for his friend and co-worker Nikki (Inde Navarette) to love him. The wish is granted. And then everything goes terribly, horribly wrong. The wish didn’t amplify any feeling — it overrode her entirely. The real Nikki remained trapped inside her own body, occasionally breaking through when she could overpower what was controlling her, before being pushed back down again. Her affection curdles into something obsessive, erratic, all-consuming. The film isn’t about a supernatural curse. It’s about the violence of control — what it means to have your autonomy taken, and to watch someone collect on that theft …

3 min readNew DelhiApr 30, 2026 11:55 AM IST Actor Akshay Kumar’s 2010 film Kesari, detailing the 1897 Battle of Saragarhi, showcased several war scenes. During the filming of the climax battle scene, the set of the movie was destroyed by a massive fire in April 2018. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but the incident led to a reported loss of around Rs 8 crore. In a recent interview, SFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi recalled the fire, which the team had to watch for two hours because there were zero safety measures on the set. During a candid chat with Hindi Rush, he shared, “We were shooting for Kesari in Hawai. We had to film a big explosion. Initially, we were about to put a separate wall, but didn’t have the budgets. So, we decided to do the explosion on the wall of the set only. After that incident, I learnt how to say no on that set, I never used to say no earlier.” He further added, “There were no safety measures on the set. …

I watched Grey’s Anatomy for 16 years; The Pitt made me realise we were never really in a hospital | Opinion-entertainment News

For the longest time, I believed Grey’s Anatomy had exhausted the medical drama for me. I was not a casual viewer. I stayed with Grey’s for 16 years, right up to season 17. I had lived through the era of McDreamy and McSteamy, watched Cristina Yang love Preston Burke and then fall into that deeply complicated orbit with Owen Hunt, kept count of how many marriages, heartbreaks, deaths this hospital could possibly contain, and stayed invested in characters like Miranda Bailey and Richard Webber. Somewhere along the way, the series became too cluttered, too crowded with new faces and stretched storylines. It simply did not end. I finally lost the trail around season 17, and after that, I lost my appetite for another medical drama altogether. So when The Pitt arrived, I gave it a miss. I was not looking for another hospital, another ER corridor, another round of medical emergencies. But word of mouth around The Pitt became impossible to ignore. It was not just that people liked it. It was that they were …
