25 years ago, Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker joined forces for Lagaan, a film that faced numerous challenges during its making but ultimately went on to become a landmark in Indian cinema. To mark the film’s silver jubilee, Aamir recently hosted a special screening, bringing the cast and crew together to relive some of their fondest memories. On the occasion, SCREEN spoke to Yashpal Sharma, who played Lakha in the film. Looking back on his journey with Lagaan, the actor recalled being cast within 20 minutes of his audition and opened up about the many challenges the team faced during the shoot. Vidarbha is set to witness a mixed spell of intense heat, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next five days, according to the latest forecast issued on Sunday by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).  The region may see a rise in maximum temperatures by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next 48 hours, followed by largely stable conditions thereafter. Monsoon progress and synoptic situation As per the IMD’s synoptic update, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon continues to advance steadily across central and eastern India, with favourable conditions for further progress into Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and parts of Chhattisgarh over the next two to three days.  A persistent seasonal trough extending from central Pakistan to Bangladesh across multiple states is also influencing weather conditions over central India. Rainfall and temperature in Vidarbha Rainfall activity across Vidarbha remained scattered with moderate intensity at isolated locations. Maximum temperatures stayed above normal, while minimum temperatures remained near normal. Heavy rains are expected in 10 districts from Tuesday due to the southwest monsoon over Tamil Nadu, according to the RMC. Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Kanyakumari and western ghats of Tirunelveli districts will receive rains till June 12, the latest bulletin from the Regional Meteorological Centre said. However, due to high maximum temperature, combined with high humidity, it is likely to cause discomfort weather over north interior Tamilnadu districts and coastal areas of the state over the same period. Cuddalore district recorded a maximium temperature of 40.7 degree Celcius on Monday, followed by Chennai, which registered 40.4 degree Celcius. Meanwhile, Oothu region in Tirunelveli district recorded 11 centimeter of rainfall during the last 24 hours and Upasi in Coimbatore district registered nine centimeter rainfall during the same period. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been launching hydrogen-filled weather balloons with radiosondes from its Thiruvananthapuram centre twice daily since 1956. According to Neetha K. Gopal, Director of IMD, Thiruvananthapuram, one of the most accurate methods for studying the atmosphere is the use of a radiosonde attached to a weather balloons. Attached to weather balloons, the instruments collect data on temperature, humidity and wind conditions at different altitudes, enabling meteorologists to create a vertical profile of the atmosphere. According to the weather department, widespread rainfall is likely across several parts of the state, with heavy showers expected in western, central and southern districts. The forecast comes amid strengthening monsoon activity over the southern peninsula and favourable atmospheric conditions for the development of thunderstorms. The districts likely to receive heavy rainfall include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari.
