Kunal Kemmu reacts to comparisons with Salman Khan as reality show host

Actor Kunal Kemmu says he isn’t thinking about comparisons with Salman Khan as he made his hosting debut with the reality show, ‘Alliance’.  He added that he is entering the show with a clean slate and simply plans to be himself. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Kunal was asked whether comparisons with Salman, who has been synonymous with the reality show niche for over a decade, were on his mind. Responding candidly, the actor said, “I didn’t think about all that. People have been doing it way before I have been doing it. And they are doing it very well.” He further explained that he has no intention of imitating anyone’s style or deliberately trying to stand apart. “Your conditioning is such that maybe this is how it happens because you have never seen it. So I am neither trying to emulate anyone, nor am I trying to be different from anyone.” He called the experience completely new for him, and admitted that he himself doesn’t know what kind of host he will eventually turn out …

Sudhanshu Saria on Sanaa: ‘I don’t want to be fast, I want to get it right’

Some films have their own journey of finding an audience, and Sudhanshu Saria understands that. The National Award-winning director’s film Sanaa, starring Radhikka Madan, has been ready since late 2022, and even travelled to several festivals around the world. The drama, however, has yet to reach the Indian audience. That could change soon, Saria indicated to mid-day.  “I don’t want to be first. I don’t want to be fast. I want to get it right. So, we are working hard to find the perfect partner to get Sanaa to the screen,” he said, adding, “I want to make sure it’s presented to the audience in the correct way. It’s a relevant film, and we have screened it a handful of times in countries around the world. We are guarding the message.”  Saria is hopeful that the film, which revolves around mental health, lands a release this year. “We know there is a certain kind of film that the industry believes people want to see. Navigating that with a sensitive film is its own journey. If …

‘We weren’t pitching to Netflix merely as a film anymore’

‘We weren’t pitching to Netflix merely as a film anymore’

For most independent filmmakers, the dream is not merely making a film, but ensuring it reaches an audience. Imagine our surprise when Nukkad Naatak appeared on Netflix last Friday morning. The Hindi film, which hit theatres on February 27, follows two college friends, Molshri and Shivang, as they embark on a journey of redemption. What drove this indie success story? Directed by Tanmaya Shekhar and produced by Medha Khanna, Nukkad Naatak lacks the typical Bollywood blueprint — stars, studio machinery, and initial access to major OTT platforms. What it did have was a deeply relatable story. Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. All rights belong to their respective owners. Kritika Kamra: ‘The journey deters me from producing’

Kritika Kamra: ‘The journey deters me from producing’

Carving one’s own path often means going against the tide. For Kritika Kamra, who took a chance with JioHotstar’s The Great Shamsuddin Family in 2025 and found both love and validation, the faith in telling smaller stories has only grown stronger. A still from ‘The Great Shamsuddin Family’. The film’s reception encouraged her to sign another indie project. However, despite its modest budget, the film is still struggling to find backing. The absence of a “big male star” and the presence of a first-time director, she says, have made the process difficult. Kamra shares, “It was a simple film, but it started a conversation. I got letters from girls saying that they relate with my character’s eldest daughter syndrome. And then the larger commentary, about belonging, identity, and safety resonated.” While she acknowledges the risks, Kamra refuses to be weighed down by it. “I’m seeing how my indie film currently is struggling. Industry forces just make it difficult for a new voice to come up, especially in this environment. The journey deters me from trying …
