How being caught in off-spin trap led to India bringing back Sanju Samson: ‘We decided to go with two wicketkeepers’ | Cricket News

3 min readMar 12, 2026 03:13 PM IST Sanju Samson’s resurgence was at the heart of India’s 2026 T20 World Cup victory and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has now revealed that India turned back to the 31-year-old during the tournament to beat a tactic that opposition teams seemed to have employed to neutralise their top-order. Samson had been dropped from India’s first-choice eleven after a string of low scores, particularly in the series against New Zealand that preceded the T20 World Cup. He failed to make too big an impact in the two matches that he ended up playing in the first half of the tournament, before putting together a hat-trick of big scores in in India’s final Super Eight match against the West Indies, which was a virtual quarterfinal, their semifinal against England and the final against New Zealand. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said that the team finally went back to Samson due to oppositions catching them out with off spinners early on. ‘This isn’t gully cricket’: Rohit Sharma on why he wants Kuldeep Yadav to stop appealing on every ball and trust wicketkeeper’s instincts | Cricket News

Around a month ago, a video went viral during South Africa’s tour of India where in a match in the ODI series, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli engaged in banter with spinner Kuldeep Yadav due to his relentless appealing. In a recent interaction, Rohit had an advice for Kuldeep ahead of the T20 World Cup- to stop with the incessant appeals on every ball and trust the wicketkeeper’s judgments. “My one simple advice to Kuldeep is to just bowl quietly and go back to his mark. You can’t appeal on every ball. This is basic. I keep saying it, but it still happens often. Even after telling him many times, he appeals at every chance. You have to use your head. Where did the ball hit? Just because it touches the pad, it doesn’t mean it’s out every time. This isn’t gully cricket,” Rohit said in JioHotstar’s ‘Captain Rohit Sharma’s Roadmap for the T20 World Cup’ show. “I get he is enthusiastic, but think of the team first. Each team only gets two DRS reviews. …

“Good Sign Of A Healty Environment”: Dinesh Karthik On India’s Strong Pool Of Wicketkeepers

Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik has expressed optimism about the current pool of wicketkeepers and feels that the plethora of players to pick from is a sign of a “healthy” Indian cricket team. In a talented pool of players, India boasts young and experienced wicketkeepers featuring Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, and currently out of favour Ishan Kishan. The stiff and healthy competition has allowed India to experiment with their combination and nurture players. Karthik looks at the strong base as a healthy sign for Indian cricket. “It is always good competition, and that is good for Indian cricket. We have a good, strong base to work with plenty of players, and that is a good sign of a healthy cricket team,” Karthik, who is leading the Southern Super Stars, in Legends League Cricket (LLC) told ANI. Jurel and Pant are a part of India’s squad for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. Pant’s return to the India Test set-up for the first time since his life-threatening accident in December 2022 has made …

India’s T20 World Cup Squad: One Big Star To Miss Out, ‘Close Call’ Over Wicketkeeper’s Slot – Report

The national selection committee is unlikely to blood any rookie IPL performer during the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Americas but a couple of tried-and-tested faces might have to brace up for disappointment when the squad is finalised by the end of this month. With the ICC making it mandatory to announce the provisional 15-member squad by May 1 cut-off date, Ajit Agarkar and his colleagues have some straightforward choices to make if every member of the team is fit. “There would not be any experimentation or left-field selections. All those who have played for India and have done well consistently in T20 Internationals and the IPL will be rewarded,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity. It is understood that one among Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal might miss out but in case both proven performers are selected in the final 15, then only one among two finishers — Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh and Chennai Super Kings’ Shivam Dube — will get the nod. The other close call could be …

‘Pant has returned six months earlier than expected because of…..’: NCA physios, doctors explain wicketkeeper’s recovery journey | Cricket News

With Rishabh Pant’s comeback becoming a big talking point ahead of the IPL 2024 season, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) physios and coaches detailed the wicketkeeper batter’s remarkable rehab program. Fourteen months out from his horrific car crash, Pant is gearing up for a return with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL and the experts at NCA have lauded his commitment during the recovery phase in Bengaluru. In a video released by BCCI, NCA physio Thulasi Yuvraj recalled the degree of pain Pant endured in the early phase. “The first thing I could notice was that he was having severe pain when a ward boy was trying to push the stretcher towards the room and it slightly hit the pathway.” “He started screaming with so much pain. It was a simple jerk but it felt so painful, he cried immediately. Then I realised, oh something big has happened,” Yuvraj said. Pant’s resilience would later become the cornerstone of the work put in by the NCA staff, Yuvraj remarked. ‘Doctors believed he may take two years’ …
