NEET UG cancellation Anatomy of a leak: A paid WhatsApp group, a whistleblower under cloud, and a ‘guess paper’ that spread like wildfire | Education News

The unravelling of a suspected leak in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG), 2026, in Rajasthan began with an automated fine print on a WhatsApp message: “Forwarded many times.” When investigators following the trail of a “guess paper” stumbled upon this WhatsApp message, they realised that what they hoped was an isolated leak was much larger in scale. Officials of the Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG), which had been investigating the case before the CBI took charge on Tuesday, said that they found a WhatsApp group named ‘Private Mafia’, where the said paper was being circulated and had members who had paid various amounts, beginning from around Rs 5,000, to join the group. However, despite strict “instructions” from the group administrators not to share the paper, it was circulated far and wide. Officials said that preliminary investigation had indicated that the paper may have leaked from Nashik, Maharashtra. Nashik police officials said they have picked up a medical student, identified as Shubham Khairnar (30), who allegedly managed to obtain the question paper days before the exam …

Rocket Lab Deploys Eight Satellites to Boost Global Wildfire Monitoring

Eight satellites designed to detect and monitor wildfires have been launched into orbit by Rocket Lab. The mission, named “Finding Hot Wildfires Near You,” was conducted for OroraTech, a Germany-based company focused on thermal imaging technology. The launch took place at Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand, on March 26 at 11:30 a.m. EST. The Electron rocket which is standing at 59 feet tall, carried out the mission, releasing the satellites into their designated orbit. The deployment process was completed in under an hour after liftoff, ensuring that the payloads were positioned correctly for their fire-detection operations. Satellites to Strengthen Global Fire Detection Reportedly, the newly launched satellites will join an existing constellation that tracks wildfires through thermal infrared imaging. The network operates around the clock. It provides real-time data on wildfire activity worldwide. The latest batch has been placed in orbit at a 97-degree inclination which approximately 550 kilometres above Earth. The company aims to expand the constellation to more than 100 satellites.  CEO Highlights Practical Applications During the launch broadcast, …

NASA Tests Advanced Infrared Technology to Improve Wildfire Monitoring

NASA Tests Advanced Infrared Technology to Improve Wildfire Monitoring

Wildfires in California during January caused widespread destruction, affecting communities and ecosystems. To improve wildfire monitoring and response, NASA deployed a new scientific instrument capable of capturing high-resolution thermal infrared images. The Compact Fire Infrared Radiance Spectral Tracker (c-FIRST) was tested aboard NASA’s B200 King Air aircraft over fire-hit areas in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. The instrument, developed for satellite-based missions, was assessed for its ability to provide real-time data on active and smoldering fires. Scientists aim to use this technology to enhance understanding of wildfire behavior and improve mitigation strategies. Enhanced Fire Detection and Data Collection According to reports, the c-FIRST instrument was developed and is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), with support from NASA’s Earth Science Technology Office. The compact design allows it to be deployed on airborne platforms, simulating satellite missions while providing near-instantaneous observations. The system captures a wide range of fire characteristics, including temperature variations across large areas. Unlike previous infrared imaging systems, c-FIRST can detect extremely high temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit (550 degrees Celsius) with improved …
