Pakistan television channel pulled up for airing Asha Bhosle tribute in ‘wilful defiance of Supreme Court judgment’ | Bollywood News

4 min readKochiApr 13, 2026 09:02 PM IST While India is yet to come to terms with Asha Bhosle’s passing, a controversy has erupted in neighbouring Pakistan over a television channel airing a programme as a tribute to the legendary playback singer. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has taken the media house, Geo News, to task for what it claims is the “wilful defiance of the judgment of the country’s Supreme Court.” Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Geo News’ managing director, Azhar Abbas, revealed that PEMRA has issued a show-cause notice to the channel for airing content related to Asha. Pointing out that it is customary to revisit and celebrate the work of iconic artistes following their demise or while preparing reports about them, Abbas noted that he believes the channel should have shared even more of her “timeless and memorable songs” than it did, considering her stature. 11 ‘Wilful Defaulters’ Of Rs 35,000 Cr Loans: Govt Targets 8 For Extradition, Restitutes Nearly Half The Amount

Last Updated:March 19, 2025, 00:32 IST The ministry of finance told Parliament that since the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA), 2018, came into force, the ED has initiated proceedings against 24 individuals, of whom 13 have been officially declared fugitive economic offenders by special courts The ministry said that the ED has attached assets worth Rs 34,149.11 crore from these defaulters. Of this, a substantial Rs 17,750.09 crore has already been confiscated and restituted to public sector banks.
