Wimbledon quarter-final appearance renews Arnav Paparkar’s self-belief

Wimbledon quarter-final appearance renews Arnav Paparkar’s self-belief

“I can compete with anyone. I can beat anyone in the juniors, for sure,” Arnav Paparkar said. The confidence comes from what he achieved at Wimbledon. The 18-year-old became the first Indian boy in 36 years after legendary Leander Paes in 1990 to reach the Wimbledon junior singles quarter-finals, earlier this month. But the magnitude of his achievement didn’t sink in as he walked off the court. It did when his phone barely stopped buzzing. “It has sunk now. For the first two days, my Instagram and WhatsApp were full of notifications,” Paparkar told The Bridge on his return from England. Paparkar had made two junior Grand Slam appearances earlier this year — the Australian Open (main draw) and Roland Garros (third round) — but exited without making much impact. Six months later, the Pune-born returned on the grand stage and enroute his quarterfinal finish knocked out the junior World No. 3 Keaton Hance of the United States with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 win in Wimbledon Juniors. “My first match was with a British wildcard. …

How Sinner out-served a faster, harder-hitting Zverev at Wimbledon

How Sinner out-served a faster, harder-hitting Zverev at Wimbledon

5 min readJul 13, 2026 10:10 PM IST In theory, Alexander Zverev should have been the happier man walking off Centre Court on Sunday. He out-aced Sinner 17 to 15 and landed 80 per cent of his first serves to Sinner’s 66. He lost anyway, 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4. The difference wasn’t power, it was what each man did with the points that followed. Sinner won 80 per cent of points on his first serve to Zverev’s 71, and 65 per cent on his second to Zverev’s 61. He also out-returned Zverev, 43 return points to 34. Whenever the match needed deciding, Sinner had more ways to decide it. That efficiency has been rebuilt from close to nothing. Two years ago this would have sounded absurd. At the 2025 US Open final, also against Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner’s first serve landed just 48 per cent of the time. He lost. Days later, leaked practice footage showed him back on court working on the shot that had failed him under exactly that pressure. He won his next …

Check out their head to head stats before Wimbledon final

3 min readJul 12, 2026 06:27 PM IST The 2026 Men’s Singles Final at the Wimbledon is locked in as defending champion Jannik Sinner is set to take on the reigning Roland Garros champion Alexander Zverev on Sunday at the Centre Court. The final was set up after Alexander Zverev defeated the homegrown wildcard Arthur Fery in straight sets (7-6 6-2 6-4) and Sinner demolished the  legendary Novak Djokovic, with a commanding 6-4 6-4 6-4) win. Zverev had never made a Wimbledon quarterfinal before this year and is now in the final after a flawless performance against Fery. However, his kryptonite, Sinner is looking his best again after a disappointing early exit at the Roland Garros and will be in contention for a successive Wimbledon win. It’s a 15th career showdown between the two top seeds, and a second Grand Slam final meeting, with Sinner having beaten Zverev at the Australian Open in January of last year. Sinner is labelled as Zverev’s kryptonite because he has defeated him nine consecutive times across every surface since …

The story behind Wimbledon’s collaboration with a 120-year-old Delhi kulfi shop

The story behind Wimbledon’s collaboration with a 120-year-old Delhi kulfi shop

Wimbledon is known for its traditions. From the all-white dress code to the famous strawberries and cream, the tournament has carefully preserved its identity for more than a century. But this year, one of its oldest traditions received an Indian touch. The All England Lawn Tennis Club partnered with Delhi’s 120-year-old Kuremal Mohanlal Kulfi Wale to launch a limited-edition Strawberries and Cream Kulfi, bringing together one of Britain’s most iconic sporting traditions and one of Old Delhi’s most famous dessert brands. The collaboration is part of Wimbledon’s effort to connect with its growing Indian audience by giving one of its most famous traditions a local flavour. Kuremal Mohanlal Kulfi Wale was founded in 1906, when Kirorimal, popularly known as Kuremal, began selling kulfis from an earthen matka in the narrow lanes of Chawri Bazaar as a seasonal summer business. In 1940, the family opened its first permanent shop, which still operates today. Over the years, the brand became famous for its stuffed fruit kulfis. Instead of simply mixing fruit pulp with milk, the shop hollows …
