BSSA is India’s new national winter sports federation

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) approved recognition of the Bhartiya Ski and Snowboard Association (BSSA) as the official national federation for skiing and snowboarding in India during its 57th Congress held in Belgrade, Serbia, on Thursday. FIS granted full membership to BSSA while disaffiliating the former member federation Ski Snowboard India (SSI). The decision officially ends years of uncertainty surrounding the governance of skiing and snowboarding in India. During the Congress, FIS President Johan Eliasch raised the issue of India’s ski federation and sought the approval of member nations regarding the affiliation of a new governing body. Eliasch explained that the Indian ski federation had remained in a state of uncertainty for nearly four years following legal disputes and court decisions in India. He noted that the situation had not been recognized by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and that discussions with the IOA had led to the recommendation that a new federation be established and admitted to FIS membership. No objections were raised by any delegation, the proposal was unanimously approved by …

Winter Olympics: Swiss broadcaster accuses Israeli athlete of ‘supporting Gaza genocide’ on air; US ambassador condemns his ‘bigotry’ | Sport-others News

3 min readFeb 18, 2026 10:44 AM IST The Winter Olympics was mired in another controversy after a Swiss commentator used a Winter Games broadcast to accuse an Israeli athlete of backing “genocide in Gaza” — triggering outrage from the athlete himself and the U.S. ambassador to Israel. During live coverage on Radio Télévision Suisse, commentator Stefan Renna zeroed in on Israeli bobsleigh pilot Adam Edelman as the two-man team completed their second qualifying run. Renna declared: “Adam Edelman, first-time Olympian and self-defined Zionist to the core, who has posted several messages on social networks in support of genocide in Gaza. Genocide is the term used by the UN Commission of Inquiry into the region. Edelman described the Israeli military intervention as, and I quote, ‘The most morally just war in history’.” He then invoked the case of Ukrainian skeleton athlete Vladyslav Heraskevych, disqualified over his “helmet of memory” tribute to athletes killed since Russia’s invasion, adding: “Just goes to show sport is obviously eminently political.” The backlash was immediate. Edelman blasted what he called …

Curling controversy widens as Britain is accused of the same infraction as Canada

CORTINA D’AMPEZZO — The curling controversy at the Winter Olympics widened Sunday as increased surveillance of the matches resulted in the removal of a stone thrown by the British men’s team for the same alleged violation that burned the Canadians two days in a row. In the ninth end of Britain’s round-robin game against Germany, officials said Scottish curler Bobby Lammie had touched a stone after releasing it down the ice. Such “double-touching” is against the rules. Britain won the match 9-4. Until Sunday, the allegations had been limited to Canadian curlers, who represent one of the world’s most fervent fan bases. The controversy began Friday night with an allegation against the Canadian men by their Swedish opponents; a day later, a stone was removed from the Canadian women’s match against Switzerland. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show both Canadian curlers double-touching the rocks but both teams denied wrongdoing. On Saturday, World Curling directed two umpires to move between the four matches during each round, monitoring play. That policy was in place when …

3 min readFeb 10, 2026 02:45 PM IST American ski great Lindsey Vonn said she has “no regrets” after suffering a complex tibia fracture in a dramatic crash during the women’s downhill at the Winter Olympics in Cortina, an injury that will require multiple surgeries. The 41-year-old, competing at her fifth and final Olympic Games, crashed just 13 seconds into Sunday’s race after striking a gate while already racing with ruptured ligaments in her left knee. Thrown violently off balance, Vonn was left screaming in pain on the course and required prolonged medical attention before being airlifted to a hospital in Treviso. Vonn, the 2010 Olympic downhill champion, later underwent surgery on her fractured left leg. “Yesterday my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would,” Vonn wrote in a post on Instagram on Monday. “It wasn’t a storybook ending or a fairytale; it was just life. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it.” “While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the …

Growing up, Arif Khan, 35, says he never dreamt big. No two days looked the same, he says, so there was no “future planning”. He would go to school and immerse himself in books, but “had no vision”. He would muse about life in other parts of the world, but was hardly allowed to leave home, even as an adult. “We had to live a different life. So, our dreams were limited,” says Khan, who belongs to a village near Gulmarg. No wonder, he is still pinching himself now.
