Shortage of ‘monster wolves’ to prevent bear attacks

Japan is facing a surge in human-bear encounters, leading to a shortage of its ‘Monster Wolf’ — a solar-powered robot built to look like a wild predator and scare away pests. It uses motion sensors, flashing lights, and loud noises to frighten animals. When its infrared sensors detect movement, the robot’s head jerks from side to side, while a rapid blue LED flashes on its tail.  It also includes a speaker with over 50 randomised audio clips to prevent animals from becoming desensitised to the threat. Since 2025, bear encounters have reportedly surged to over 50,000 sightings nationwide, with 13 confirmed fatalities and over 200 injuries so far. Gary Neville backs Arsenal for Premier League title

3 min readMar 2, 2026 09:47 PM IST A day after Manchester City swept past Leeds United 1-0, Arsenal kept the race for the Premier League lead exciting by brushing aside Chelsea 2-1 in the North vs West London derby to restore a five-point lead at the top of the standings. William Saliba scored the opening goal for the Gunners before an own goal by Piero Hincapié resulted in a 1-1 equaliser in the first half. It was Jurrien Timber’s 66th-minute goal that decided the fate of the game as Mikel Arteta took all three points from the game at home. Former England footballer Gary Neville praised Arsenal’s response to that last-minute heartbreak at Molineux Stadium, where the Gunners had to share the spoils with last-placed, struggling Wolves. Neville said Arteta’s side’s resilience would get them over the line in a close title race against Man City in the final nine games of the season. “They have quality, physical strength and experience of the last three years of losing it,” he was quoted as saying …

‘Sometimes you can attack better with less strikers’: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim on curious decision to sub Joshua Zirkzee off vs Wolves | Football News

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim defended his decision to sub off striker Joshua Zirkzee and goal scorer when Manchester United were drawing 1-1 with bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League match on Tuesday. With United desperately needing a goal, fans and experts alike were left baffled when Amorim decided to sub Zirkzee off and introduce midfielder Jack Fletcher. “We were struggling with their midfielders, and sometimes you can attack better with less strikers. We ‌played with three strikers and sometimes that’s not the best thing to attack well. This game is over, you can not change ‌the result of this one, but you can move on and go to the next one,” Amorim said to Sky Sports. “Looking at the 90 minutes, we had our ‌chances but the fluidity offensively ‍wasn’t there. There is a lack of connections at the moment. They tried, we didn’t play well. When you don’t play well with the ball, you struggle without it. We need to recover and go to the next one,” he added. United suffered a …

Gary Neville blasts Ruben Amorim over Manchester United’s ‘appalling’ back-three reversion in Wolves draw

Gary Neville blasts Ruben Amorim over Manchester United’s ‘appalling’ back-three reversion in Wolves draw

Former English footballer Gary Neville blasted Manchester United and coach Ruben Amorim after the side played out a 1-1 draw against a struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League match on Tuesday. Neville was particularly disappointed with Amorim’s decision to play back three against Wolves, which cost them two crucial points, and the English football pundit said, United went backwards because Amorim decided to revert to a back three. “That was the baddest of the bad that. They weren’t just booed off at full-time. The fans waited in the stadium to continue to boo them,” he said on the Gary Neville podcast. The Reds missed out on the chance to go fourth on the leaderboards and became the first side to drop points to Wolves since October after a run of 12 consecutive defeats as Amorim’s side were booed off by their own fans at Old Trafford. Neville was surprised Amorim had not gone with the back four that earned Man United a 1-0 win over Newcastle at home on Boxing Day, given his only …

Wolves record longest winless start in league’s history after losing to Liverpool

Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday to climb into the top four in the table and condemn Wolves to an unwanted record for the longest winless start in Premier League history with 18 games. Ruthless strikes from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz a minute apart in the first half secured victory for the holders to leave them on 32 points after 18 matches, 10 behind leaders Arsenal. Wolves’ nightmare season continued with just two points gained, a staggering 16 points from safety. Wolves did well to frustrate Anfield fans ‍before Gravenberch finally struck in the 41st minute. Jeremie Frimpong worked his way around two Wolves defenders before cutting it back to the Dutch midfielder who fired into the bottom corner. Reds fans were still celebrating when Wirtz scored his first goal in Liverpool colours a minute later, latching onto Hugo Ekitike’s through ball before poking past goalkeeper Jose Sa. “I was confident that I would score one day,” said the Germany midfielder, who was signed from Bayer Leverkusen in ‌June. “I just know that …

Amid renewed attacks, two wolves shot dead in Bahraich village in a span of 48 hours | Lucknow News

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department has intensified operations in Bahraich, killing two wolves in the last 48 hours, amid renewed fear of the attacks following the killing of four children in the past two weeks, including a year-old baby allegedly taken on Saturday. This brings the total number of wolves killed in the district to six over the past three months, according to the officials. Based on a tip-off about the presence of wolves in the district’s Godhiya village, the Forest Department rushed a team to the spot on Sunday. The team scanned the area using drones and tracked the animal on the move. After narrowing down the wolf’s location, the Forest Department team opened fire and killed the animal, said the officials. In the second incident, reported from the same village on Saturday, another wolf allegedly carried away a year-old baby who was sleeping beside her mother at their home. The wolf allegedly entered the house, snatched the baby in its jaws, and fled to a nearby sugarcane field. The mother raised an alarm …

Dale Steyn after 2nd IND vs SA: ‘Axar Patel can bat, but sending him at No 3 felt like throwing him to the wolves’ | Cricket News

With the Indian team management sending all-rounder Axar Patel at the number three slot in the team’s chase of a total of 214 runs against South Africa in the second T20I played at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA New International Stadium, Mullanpur, it meant that captain Suryakumar Yadav did not come to bat at his usual number three spot. Patel played a 21-ball knock of 23 on Thursday with Yadav coming at four after the fall of Abhishek Sharma during India’s innings. With India losing vice-captain Shubman Gill in the first over, former South African pacer Dale Steyn questioned the move to send Patel at the number three spot and has termed it as ‘throwing him to the wolves’. “He (Axar Patel) is supposed to be your best batter. That’s not a trial-and-error situation — that’s just a major mistake in my opinion. And yes, Axar can bat, but sending him there felt like throwing him to the wolves. What was the role? If he walked in to slog from ball one, fine. Or if Abhishek …
