Mirra Andreeva defeats Maja Chwalinska to clinch maiden French Open title

1 min readUpdated: Jun 6, 2026 08:23 PM IST Mirra Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska in the French Open final in straight sets to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday. The Russian beat her opponent 6-3 6-2 in a match that lasted almost one and a half hours. At 19, eighth-ranked Andreeva became the youngest player to win the women’s singles title since Monica Seles was 18 when she landed her third straight French Open in 1992. Andreeva arrived at Saturday’s showpiece as the overwhelming favourite after bulldozing her way through the draw, dropping only 12 games in her last three matches and looking every inch a future Grand Slam champion. Andreeva, who reached the Roland Garros semi-finals as a 17-year-old two years ago, believes her growing maturity has helped transform her from a precocious talent into a genuine title contender. The Russian’s relentless baseline power and ability to dictate rallies have overwhelmed opponents throughout the tournament and she has looked increasingly comfortable with the expectations that accompany her rapid rise. ‘I’ve decided to take a different path’: Iga Swiatek splits with coach after shock Miami Masters exit | Tennis News

3 min readMar 24, 2026 12:28 PM IST Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek announced the end of her coaching partnership with Wim Fissette following a disappointing early exit at the Miami Open, signalling a fresh chapter in her career after a challenging start to the 2026 season. Fissette, who joined Swiatek’s team in October 2024, played a key role during a period of notable success. Under his guidance, the Polish star captured her maiden Wimbledon title in 2025, and also added WTA titles in Seoul and Cincinnati. Despite those highs, the partnership struggled to maintain momentum into 2026. Swiatek has yet to progress beyond the quarter-finals in any of the four tournaments she has played this season, a dip in form that culminated in a shock second-round defeat at the Miami Open, where she was beaten by compatriot Magda Linette, currently ranked world number 50. The loss was particularly striking as it ended a remarkable streak – Swiatek had not lost her opening match in a WTA event for 74 consecutive tournaments when receiving a …

Can Iga Swiatek create history at Australian Open by becoming the 11th woman to complete the Grand Slam? | Tennis News

She plays with the weight of history behind her; triumph at Melbourne Park would make her the 11th woman in the game’s history to complete the Grand Slam: the elusive achievement of winning at least one title at each of the four Majors. Swiatek, as all pros in her position ought to do, coolly played it off. “I’m still young. I have plenty of time to do different things and achieve different goals in my career,” she said during her pre-tournament press conference. “I really don’t need to put that pressure on myself to do something in the next two weeks.” Since Don Budge achieved the feat over 90 years ago, only 18 singles players have managed the Grand Slam. 2026 sees the prospect of three more doing so, and while Jannik Sinner will have to wait for the French Open, both Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz can break the barrier in Melbourne itself. In a sport obsessed with pitting landmarks against landmarks, this is the real marker of greatness. The magnitude of reaching it, and …

Tennis: 15-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi’s impressive run in Mumbai Open ends with semifinal defeat and promise of a bright future | Tennis News

It’s easy to look at a scoreline of 3-6, 1-6 and conclude a tennis match was lopsided and not many positives to take for the one who ended on the losing side. But that’d not necessarily be true in Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi’s case. The 15-year-old from Coimbatore lost against 5th seed Jill Teichmann in the last four of the L&T Mumbai Open 2025 WTA 125 at the CCI Club in Mumbai, but it will be remembered as a week where she shot to the limelight. As a qualifying wild card who was unranked on the WTA circuit, Maaya was playing only her fifth professional event. In the main draw, she went on to defeat Iryna Shymanovich, former Top 50 player Zarina Diyas, and Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi but the Swiss leftie Teichmann was a step too far. “Today was not as good as I’d hoped it to be, but still happy with a good week,” Maaya said in a brief on-court interview before walking off to a healthy round of applause. There was appreciation from the …
