‘ ₹14,000 rent, ₹3,500 groceries’: Corporate employee working remotely from Manali breaks down monthly expenses

The rise of work-from-home and remote jobs has transformed the way many professionals think about where they live. Freed from the daily commute and the need to be close to an office, some employees are leaving crowded cities in search of a slower and more affordable lifestyle. While hill stations and mountain towns are often seen as dream destinations for remote workers, questions around the actual cost of living there remain common. The employee shared that he rents a 1BHK apartment in Manali for ₹14,000 a month. (Instagram/@a4ajayyyyy) Addressing that curiosity, a corporate remote employee recently shared a detailed breakdown of his monthly expenses while living alone in Manali. The video, shared on Instagram by user Ajay Sharma, has sparked a discussion online about whether mountain life is really cheaper than living in a metro city. “How much does it cost to live alone in the mountain as a corporate remote employee?” Sharma asked at the start of the video before detailing his budget. Sharma shared that he rents a 1BHK apartment in Manali for …

‘Proof of failure’: Rahul Gandhi on PM Modi’s WFH, other appeals amid US-Iran war

‘Proof of failure’: Rahul Gandhi on PM Modi’s WFH, other appeals amid US-Iran war

Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Indians to adopt several lifestyle changes, including shifting to working from home yet again and avoid buying gold for about a year, in order to soften the impact of the ongoing war between the United States and Iran. However, his suggestions failed to impress the Opposition as Congress called it a “proof of failure”. Rahul Gandi said that PM Modi’s appeals were not mere “sermons” but “proofs of failure”. (File Photo/AFP) Modi’s appeal to the nation, which he shared on Sunday while speaking in Hyderabad where he inaugurated multiple projects, came over two months after the war in West Asia started on February 28. The war, which is under temporary ceasefire for now, sent ripples across the world as it seriously dented global energy supply. Reacting to Modi’s address, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabh Rahul Gandhi wrote in a post on X, “Modi ji demanded sacrifices from the public yesterday – don’t buy gold, don’t go abroad, use less petrol, cut down on fertilizer and cooking oil, take the …

All Delhi government offices and private organisations will operate with 50 per cent staff, with the remaining employees working remotely, due to increasing pollution levels, according to an order issued by the government on Monday. The remaining staff shall mandatorily work from home,” the order issued by the Delhi government’s department of environment & forests said. BougeRV water heater review: hot showers to go

BougeRV water heater review: hot showers to go

Hot water is like internet connectivity for most Verge readers: you just expect it to be there. But that’s unlikely to be the case this summer when tent camping at a music festival or road-tripping into the great unknown. That’s where BougeRV’s battery-powered shower comes in. The $310 “Portable Propane Outdoor Camping Water Heater” from BougeRV is not only optimized for search engine discovery, it also delivers a luxurious spray of hot steaming water to the unwashed, be they human, canine, or stubborn pots and pans. Charge up the battery, attach a propane canister, drop the pump into a jug of water, and you’re ready to get sudsing. It’s so useful and flexible that I’ve ditched my plans to install a permanent shower cabin and expensive hot water system inside my adventure van, even if I don’t completely trust it. $310 The Good Battery-powered portability Temperature control Adjustable flow to save water Lots of safety features The Bad Lots of hoses and cables to snag Weak shower head holder No bag to carry all the …

EcoFlow Wave 3 review: a portable air conditioner and heater that’s better in every way

EcoFlow Wave 3 review: a portable air conditioner and heater that’s better in every way

I’ve been testing the EcoFlow Wave 3, a follow-up to the all-in-one battery-powered air conditioner, heater, and fan I reviewed last summer. EcoFlow has dialed back its absurd marketing with a more powerful unit that can be recharged through several methods, including the sun. Only now it can automatically (try to) maintain a set temperature range and act as a dedicated dehumidifier, too. I was grateful to have EcoFlow’s Wave 2 with me last summer while vanlifing around Portugal and Spain. That less powerful A/C helped to offset daytime temps hitting 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degree Fahrenheit) and made 25C (77F) nights comfortable enough to sleep. But it only worked in small spaces and under just the right circumstances. The third-generation portable heat pump from EcoFlow can’t perform miracles. We’re still only talking 6100BTU (1800W) of cooling and 6800BTU (2000W) of heating. And placement is limited by bulky intake and exhaust hoses, and the space needed for a receptacle to collect any drained water. But if you own a van, surf shack, work shed, roof-top …

New Starlink subscription drops hardware price to alt=

New Starlink subscription drops hardware price to $0

SpaceX is now offering 12-month residential service plans that bring the price of the dish and router — normally $349 in the US — down to $0 in select markets, without increasing the monthly fee. You have 30 days to test or return the kit for a full refund, but after that there’s some fine print to be aware of. If you change the service address or cancel service, for example, you’ll be hit with a change fee equal to the cost of the hardware but prorated over time. Some subscribers will also be slapped with a one-time “demand surcharge” of around $100 in areas where SpaceX sees high usage. Nevertheless, for many, this might be a good deal. At my home in the Netherlands, for example, the Standard Kit costs €349 under the normal Residential plan costing €50 per month. The new 12-month commitment plan brings the hardware cost down to €0 without increasing the monthly fee. The Change fee is listed at €349. Presumably, SpaceX did the math and found that bringing in …

BougeRV’s electric wagon is the uphill king and downhill menace

BougeRV’s electric wagon is the uphill king and downhill menace

Not to brag, but I’m somewhat of an expert in folding wagons. Huge flex, I know. But I’ve never tested one with a motor like BougeRV’s new Electric Foldable Wagon. I have a little surf shack that sits almost exactly 1km (0.6 miles) from the parking lot, where I regularly carry supplies and sports gear back and forth. I’ve used lots of folding carts, with prices starting around $40 for something that will only last a few months, $250 for something from a reputable brand, and closer to $800 for top-of-the-line merch. Nothing I’ve tried can make hauling 200kg (about 440 pounds) over steep inclines as effortless as the new BougeRV electric wagon. Yeah, it’s $399.99, and not without its quirks, but boy is it worth it if you regularly carry large heavy loads over hills. $400 The Good Flattens steep hills Huge carrying capacity Folds for easy transport Good range The Bad Terrible display Electronic brake and throttle useless on downhills Expensive Company offers vague assurance against rain BougeRV — the company behind that …
