What constitutes a ‘workplace’ under POSH Act?

What constitutes a ‘workplace’ under POSH Act?

In a case discussing the interpretation of “workplace” under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH), the Bombay High Court held that a shared autorickshaw used by an employee for commuting to work does not constitute a “workplace” unless the transport is provided by the employer. The High Court, in its judgment dated June 16, set aside the findings of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) that had held a State Bank of India (SBI) employee guilty of sexual harassment based on an incident that occurred during such travel. The case arose when the petitioner, an SBI employee was travelling in a share auto rickshaw with the respondent. The court stated that in the present case, although the petitioner was going to his office, the said transportation had not been provided either by his employer or Respondent 3’s employer. In these circumstances, such transportation would not fall within the definition of a “workplace” as defined by Section 2(o)(v), POSH Act. Thus, the Court held that the alleged incident had …

Ladies First movie review: Gender-flipped workplace comedy with dated ideas | Movie-review News

3 min readMay 26, 2026 06:19 PM IST Ladies First movie review: First things first, this comedy drama about a misogynistic corporate honcho being made to navigate sexist treatment and mindset when he finds himself in a set-up that is ruled by women is not new. What adds spark to the remake of the French title, I Am Not an Easy Man, is the presence of Rosamund Pike as Alex Fox, a hardworking and talented executive who is picked as one of the company’s creative directors because it looks good for the optics. Some minutes into the movie, things seem to have turned upside down. Sacha Baron Cohen, who plays Alex’s boss Damien Sachs, finds himself in a parallel alternative world dominated by women. He struggles to adapt to this new world order, where he is objectified and not given opportunities to be heard. Somehow, being a man works as an impediment for him in getting promoted. As the dude vibe is replaced in the movie with feminine toxicity, which can be equally discriminatory, Cohen …

‘Just want to get paid as much as Akshay Kumar’: When Kareena Kapoor demanded pay parity with male stars; how to ask for it at your workplace | Workplace News

3 min readNew DelhiApr 1, 2026 11:00 PM IST In a light but striking moment, Kareena Kapoor Khan said something many women have felt for years. Sitting across from her Good Newwz co-star Akshay Kumar, she smiled and said in an interview during the film’s promotions, “I just want to get paid what Akshay Kumar gets.” Her tone may have been playful, but the message was loud and clear. It wasn’t just about her or Bollywood, but something that rings true across boardrooms, offices, and film sets everywhere. Too often, women work just as hard, showing up with just as much experience and commitment, but walking away with less. Less money. Less credit. Less recognition. Executive coach Sridhar Laxman, who’s worked with thousands of professionals through Lucid Minds Coaching, says he hears this all the time. “She got the promotion, but not the pay.” Or, “I was told to be patient.” Sometimes it’s, “I don’t want to seem ungrateful.” These aren’t isolated stories—they’re patterns. Over time, these patterns shape how women see themselves. Many begin …

4 min readNew DelhiFeb 6, 2026 04:55 PM IST Recently, Bollywood playback singer Arijit Singh announced he would stop accepting new assignments, prompting others to reflect on the pressures of long creative careers. Over the past week, several voices have weighed in on the decision, including singer Lucky Ali, who offered a personal perspective while speaking to PTI. He said, “You’ve got to stand in the musician’s shoes to understand what he’s really feeling. If he’s taken a step like this, something must have snapped within him. I totally agree with Arijit for taking a stand. And it’s not a loss. He’s definitely going to sing and express himself, but not within the circumstances that existed earlier. You have to make your own road, like we did—we made our own road.” Reflecting on his own path, Ali added, “Nothing is offered to you on a plate. You have to present your case in the best possible way and be convinced about what you’re doing. Once you cross that hurdle, it gets a little easier. That …

2 min readNew DelhiJan 29, 2026 03:40 PM IST Dr Zulkifli Hasan, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Malaysia, is under fire after he associated workplace stress with sexual orientation. Dr Hasan made the comments during a parliamentary session. These factors, he said, include social environment, sexual experiences, work-related stress, and other personal circumstances. Dr Zulkifli added that insufficient religious practice could be another contributing factor, The Straits Times reported. He informed that from 2022 to 2025, a total of 135 cases related to LGBT activities were recorded as arrests or prosecutions. Dr Hasan’s statement did not sit well with several social media users and sparked criticism. “He answer a question by quoting a research which listed a few factors, including work. Enough with the propaganda,” a user wrote. “Somebody in …
