During the visit, Ms. Sitharaman reviewed the progress of road construction, traffic management measures, and infrastructure development associated with the Greenfield expressway project, which is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I scheme to provide high-speed and seamless connectivity between Bengaluru and Chennai. The Union Minister said that projects such as the Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway reflected the commitment of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government to building quality infrastructure that accelerates economic growth and improves the ease of living for citizens. Patil said the initiative, launched after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to involve community efforts in water conservation during a video conference on September 6, 2024, has seen widespread public support. The initiative aims to enhance water recharge through rainwater harvesting/aquifer recharge/borewell recharge/ recharge shafts etc. with resource support from government and non-government resources like corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, industrial houses, civic bodies, he said. The rehabilitation works on the Indrakeeladri Ghat Road leading to the Kanaka Durga temple have been temporarily suspended due to extreme weather conditions and intense heatwave prevailing in the city. The repair works, jointly undertaken by the Endowments Department and Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, commenced on May 26 from the tollgate up to the hilltop road. The authorities had initially planned to complete the works by June 12. However, the R&B Sub-Division Deputy Executive Engineer informed the temple authorities through an official letter on Thursday that the present weather conditions were not suitable for continuing the road rehabilitation works. According to officials, the severe heatwave conditions have made it difficult for field workers to carry out the repairs. Undertaking bitumen and chemical-based road repair works under such extreme heat would not be technically appropriate and could lead to cracks and damage to the road surface. In view of the situation, the R&B Department requested the temple authorities to revise the work schedule until weather conditions return to normal.
