How Jasprit Bumrah’s return reminded England why he’s the world’s best

The signs were there long before the wickets came. Jasprit Bumrah‘s opening spell at Edgbaston yielded nothing on the scoreboard, but it had everything else – pace that kept climbing, movement through the air, relentless accuracy and an England top order scrambling for answers. By the time the breakthroughs arrived, the damage had already been done. Facing most of the brunt and remaining unscathed was Ben Duckett. Of the four overs, he alone faced 19 deliveries, scoring 7. But it was in those remaining 16 deliveries that Bumrah showed why he remains the best all-format bowler in the current era. The first one of the morning struggled to touch 129kmph and Duckett happily defended. But there was a cue. He was already getting to angle the ball away. The next two were beaten with both landing almost in a blind spot and missing the outside edge by millimetres. In between, he copped a blow to his fingers, winced in pain, but Bumrah was in no mood to show any mercy. If anything, he showed a …

The superstitious rituals behind the world’s most analytical sport

The superstitious rituals behind the world’s most analytical sport

Cricket and numbers go hand in hand. Strike rate, wagon wheels, match-ups, pitch maps, expected runs and format-by-format comparisons keep fans busy for hours. Yet something deeply human still survives in the middle of all that data. Players with access to video analysis, biomechanics and nutrition plans can still refuse to change gloves during a good innings, a batter might put on the left pad first for years and a fielder may always sit in the exact same dressing-room spot. In cricket, these superstitions almost make sense. The sport is built on repetition. The same run-up, the same grip, the same trigger movement and the same routine between balls. When margins are this thin, a ritual is not always just superstition. Sometimes it is a way to focus. When luck becomes part of the game plan Some stories have become part of cricket folklore. Steve Waugh famously carried his red handkerchief when he went out to bat. Sachin Tendulkar has often been linked with the habit of putting on his left pad before his right. …

When contrasting worlds of Erling Haaland and Aymen Hussein converged | Football News

5 min readJun 17, 2026 08:20 AM IST If not for football, the world could feel disjointed. Patches of land that ought never to intersect. Like Norway and Iraq. Blessed with political stability and economic prosperity, Norway is the seventh-happiest nation in the world, ranks second on the Human Development Index, and seventh on GDP per capita. Iraq, shaped by decades of war, sanctions and militant insurgencies, sits at 101, 126 and 116, respectively. Which crest a footballer wears is the consequence of a geographical lottery. What is not, however, is how they perform once the whistle blows. Per the official scoreline, Norway made light work of Iraq in a 4-1 win at the Boston Stadium. Beyond the scoreline, though, the night belonged as much to Aymen Hussein as it did to Erling Braut Haaland. Haaland arrives The sport owes nothing to anyone. A trailblazer like Johan Cruyff never won the World Cup. Neither did Ferenc Puskás or Paolo Maldini. George Best never played in one. The tournament would have survived without Haaland. But it …

Elon Musk Becomes World’s First Trillionaire After Historic SpaceX IPO

Elon Musk Becomes World’s First Trillionaire After Historic SpaceX IPO

Elon Musk’s fortune has crossed a line no individual has reached before. SpaceX’s Nasdaq debut pushed Musk’s estimated net worth above $1 trillion after shares rose 19% on their first day of trading. The milestone reflects both the scale of SpaceX’s new public valuation and Musk’s unusually concentrated stakes across Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures. Musk was already the richest man on the planet before the SpaceX IPO, with a net worth more than three times that of the next-closest individual, Larry Page, the co-founder of Google. He is the only one among the 10 wealthiest billionaires to derive a large portion of his net worth from multiple companies. While Musk will not be able to access a large portion of his net worth, he can borrow against his shares to raise billions of dollars in cash for future acquisitions or investments. It may not be the end of Musk’s net worth growth either, with a Tesla pay package that could award him $1 trillion if he meets key objectives and the company’s valuation surpasses …
