She was the Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2023. Over the last two seasons in the WPL, she has scored 324 runs and bagged 17 wickets for Gujarat. RCB sign England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge in trade window: Why this is a good move for the WPL champions | Cricket News

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced a significant new addition to their WPL roster as they signed Danni Wyatt-Hodge in a cash trade from UP Warriorz. The explosive opener, who is also a brilliant fielder, is on brink of 3000 T20I runs (2979) and has a healthy career strike rate of 127.85, going even higher in recent years. Wyatt-Hodge is currently one of the most destructive batters in the shortest format at the top of the order. She was named in the T20 World Cup team of the tournament, despite England’s shock early exit. Batting in the top order, she was England’s most consistent scorer with 151 runs in four innings. She top-scored with 41 in England’s opening victory against Bangladesh before important knocks of 43 and 51 not out in wins over South Africa and Scotland respectively. Why Danni is a good choice for RCB During their title-winning run this year, the one area RCB did struggle was consistency at the top of the order. While Mandhana was a constant presence, they had to …

WPL 2024: Yastika Bhatia, Amelia Kerr shine as Mumbai Indians put on a stroke-making masterclass to thump RCB | Cricket News

On a day when Mumbai Indians restricted a strong Royal Challengers Bangalore batting line-up to 131/6 and then comfortably won the match, a large part of the credit must of course go to the bowlers. But the highlight of the night at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was the exhibition of strokeplay from MI batters. In their chase of 133, Mumbai batters hit 19 fours and three sixes for a total of 94 runs through boundaries, a whopping 70.67% of their total. That Mumbai had four all rounders in their top five of the batting order, who bowled 14 overs between them, was another reminder of their elite core of multidimensional cricketers. Leading the side once again in the absence of Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt rotated her bowlers around nicely to never let RCB gain any batting momentum. Only Ellyse Perry managed to cross 11 in the top six, and even she struggled for timing consistently. Mumbai’s batting was a complete study in contrast as they hit the ground running. Yastika Bhatia, who has been …

Laughed at once, lauded now: How WPL is changing perception around women’s cricket and cricketers | Cricket News

The Women’s Premier League’s (WPL) impact can be gauged in many ways. But nothing captures it better than the emergence of Sajana Sajeevan. Until she was picked by Mumbai Indians, the 29-year-old from Wayanad was just another allrounder in the domestic scene. At the first opportunity, Sajana showed she’s much more than that. In her first season, off her first ball – and the game’s final – she hit a six to hand Mumbai Indians an incredible win against the Delhi Capitals in Friday’s season opener. Just like that, a star was born. Safe to say, Sajana’s six-hitting talent would not have been unearthed if not for the WPL. “Girls take cricket seriously now,” Sneh Rana, Indian off-spinner and Gujarat Giants’ vice-captain, tells The Indian Express. “Those who might not have considered taking up cricket as a serious profession, those parents who were scared ki cricket mein kya hoga (what will happen in cricket)… that is changing. More players are coming forward, more parents are sending kids to coaching, WPL is a fine platform for …
