Three books based on late CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury’s writings on culture, media, science, and secularism were released Friday. Published by the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) and Tulika Books, the three books include Hindu Rashtra Hai Kya, a Hindi translation of Yechury’s 1993 English book. The other two are: The Fight For The Republic, which has three essays, two devoted to Hindutva and one to India @75; and Reflections on Culture, Media and Science. Yechury passed away on September 12 at AIIMS, Delhi. Former CPI (M) general secretary Prakash Karat released the books in the presence of economist Prabhat Patnaik, emeritus professor at JNU’s Centre for Economic Studies and Planning C P Chandrashekhar, SAHMAT’s Ram Rahman, Advocate Raju Ramachandran and Loklahar editor Rajendra Sharma. “Sitaram published What is Hindu Rashtra in March 1993, months after the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Sitaram Yechury`s body handed over to AIIMS for medical research

Wrapped in the red flag of the CPI(M), party veteran Sitaram Yechury`s body was donated to the AIIMS authorities here on Saturday for medical research amid chants of “Lal Salaam”. Earlier in the day, rich tributes were paid to Yechury at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) headquarters at the AKG Bhavan here, where his mortal remains were brought from his residence in the morning. Wrapped in the CPI(M) flag, Yechury`s mortal remains were kept at the party office, where party leaders, including politburo members Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, Pinarayi Vijayan and M A Baby, paid their tributes to the departed leader. Hours after CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury’s death, his family members decided to donate his body to AIMS Delhi for teaching and research purposes, the hospital said in a statement. Sitaram Yechury, 72, was admitted to AIIMS on 19 August 2024 due to pneumonia and passed away on 12 September 2024 at 3:05 pm. Yechury had been in a critical condition for the last few days and was on respiratory support. On 14th September the body of Comrade Sitaram Yechury will be kept at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) headquarters, A.K. Gopalan Bhavan, Gole Market, New Delhi for public viewing and paying homage between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM.
