Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency producers ask for 2 weeks time to make CBFC-suggested cuts | Bollywood

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, co-producer of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency film, on Friday told the Bombay High Court it has agreed to the cuts suggested by the censor board. (Also Read: ‘Emergency pe Emergency laggai’: All about the controversies surrounding Kangana Ranaut’s film) Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency didn’t release because it wasn’t issued a CBFC certificiate. Producers agree to cuts suggested Senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani, who represented Zee, said the necessary cuts would be made and the film would be submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for issuance of its certificate. Senior counsel Abhinav Chandrachud, appearing for the CBFC, said once the film is submitted after the cuts, the same would be verified and a certificate would be issued in two weeks. A division bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla accepted the statements and disposed of the petition filed by Zee Entertainment. The trial judge needed to have analysed why such an ex parte injunction was essential, top court said. New Delhi: Courts should not grant ex-parte injunctions against publication of a news article barring in exceptional cases as it may have severe ramifications for the right to freedom of speech of the author and the public’s right to know, the Supreme Court has said. Setting aside a trial court’s order directing international media group Bloomberg to take down an allegedly defamatory news article against Zee Entertainment, the top court said injunctions against the publication of material should be granted only after a full fledged trial. “The grant of a pre-trial injunction against the publication of an article may have severe ramifications on the right to freedom of speech of the author and the public’s right to know,” a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud said. The bench, also comprising Justices Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said an injunction, particularly ex-parte, should not be granted without establishing that the content sought to …

Sony Scraps $10 Billion India Merger As Zee Failed To Meet Financial Terms: Report

New Delhi: Sony scrapped the $10 billion merger of its Indian arm with Zee Entertainment in part because Zee failed to meet some financial terms of the deal and come up with a plan to address them, according to a termination notice reviewed by Reuters. India’s Zee denied the allegations in a letter to Sony, also reviewed by Reuters, and accused the Japanese company of “bad faith” in calling off the merger. A Zee-Sony merger in India would have created a media powerhouse in the world’s most populous nation with 90-plus channels across sports, entertainment and news. But Sony terminated the plans on Jan. 22, saying in a statement it was doing so because “closing conditions” were not satisfied after two years of negotiations. Neither Sony nor Zee made the contents of the termination notice public. Reviewed by Reuters, Sony’s notice said Zee had “failed to take commercially reasonable” efforts to meet some financial thresholds, including with regards to cash availability, while a “lack of commercial prudence” by the Indian network contributed to its decision. …
