Zirakpur police arrested four men after allegedly catching them with sharp-edged weapons while they were roaming in the city looking for potential robbery and snatching targets on Monday night. The FIR was registered at Zirakpur police station under Sections 310(4) and 111(2)(b) of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act. The informant told police that four men were moving around Zirakpur in a silver Maruti WagonR (PB-70-H-8909) and were carrying weapons, including knives, kirpans and small axes. The informer claimed the group was near GBP Building Chambers on PR-7 Road and was looking for potential targets. Chandigarh: Over 20 injured as Manali-Delhi bus overturns after collision with truck near Zirakpur

20 passengers sustained injuries after a private bus going from Manali to Delhi overturned near Chhat Light Chowk in Zirakpur early Friday morning following a collision with a truck. A youth also got trapped under the bus and suffered a fracture in his arm. The injured were rushed to Dera Bassi civil hospital, while several seriously injured passengers were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector-3 for further treatment. The Punjab and Haryana high court would take up a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the plan to axe approximately 5,000 trees for the tricity ring road project of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) between the junction at NH-7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) and NH-5 junction (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) in Panchkula. The ring road project is estimated to cost Rs. 1,878 crore. (HT File) “The project will result in the felling of over 2,000 trees from notified forest land in Punjab, more than 2,200 trees from the Panchkula Golf Course and approximately 1,000 trees from Sector-1A Panchkula and other green belts. These trees are predominantly 20-30 years old and constitute established ecological assets performing vital ecosystem services,” says the PIL filed by 21 odd residents of the tricity demanding that the NHAI be directed to re-align the project to preserve the thousands of trees that are at stake. Convicting three men of stabbing and robbing a truck driver in Zirakpur, a Mohali court has sentenced them to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. The court held Arjun Kumar, Lachhman Kumar and Ashish Rana guilty of robbery, attempt to commit culpable homicide, causing grievous hurt, wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation for the October 2020 crime near Ramada Hotel, Zirakpur. The court refused to show leniency despite submissions that the convicts were poor men and sole breadwinners. In an effort to enhance road connectivity, the Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the construction of 6-lane Zirakpur bypass starting from NH-7 (Zirakpur-Patiala) and ending at NH-5 (Zirakpur-Parwanoo) with a total length 19.2 km in Punjab and Haryana on Hybrid Annuity Mode. The move from the Centre comes to facilitate integrated transport infrastructure development under the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan principle. Rajneesh Bhardwaj and Divya Jyoti, residents of Sushma Crescent, Zirakpur, said they had booked a flat no. 104 with Sushma Buildtech Limited and the builder issued the allotment on June 15, 2019. The total price of the flat was fixed at Rs 58,55,800, including Rs 4 lakh as the PLC. The complainants alleged when they visited the construction site, they found an STP plant close to their flat. They alleged that despite sending numerous emails to the builder, the STP plant was not removed.
