‘Are we tennis players or animals in zoo’: World no 2 Iga Swiatek on cameras in Australian Open | Tennis News

The last 24 hours at the Australian Open have seen videos of world number three Coco Gauff smashing her racket on a ramp following her 6-1, 6-2 loss against Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals of the tournament as well as a video of world number two Iga Swiatek being denied access by security into the player’s gym without her tournament accreditation. Swiatek would suffer a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals. After the ouster, the six-time grand slam winner was critical of the fact that the players are recorded at different areas than the court during the tournament. “The question is, are we tennis players or are we animals in the zoo where they are observed even when they poop? OK, that was exaggerating obviously, but it would be nice to have some privacy. It would be nice to have your own process and not always be observed, without the whole world watching. It’s not simple. We are meant to be watched on the court and in the press. That is our …

Vadodara: Sayajibaug Zoo loses its lone lioness to Cobra bite | Ahmedabad News

Vadodara: Sayajibaug Zoo loses its lone lioness to Cobra bite | Ahmedabad News

Vadodara’s Sayajibaug Zoo on Friday lost its six-year-old lioness Samriddhi –  five days after she was injured in a deadly fight with an Indian Cobra that had slithered into her cage on Monday evening. Samriddhi, who had pounced with all her might at the cobra and grievously injured it, succumbed to venom toxicity from the cobra’s bites that landed mostly on her face during the encounter. While teams of the Sayajibaug zoo attended to Samriddhi round the clock since Monday evening, the mighty lioness suffered a seizure on Friday evening and bid adieu to her home of five years. Samriddhi’s death has left Vadodara’s iconic zoo without a lion – her partner Samrat had passed away at the age of two-and-a-half-years due to a chronic kidney ailment in September 2022 and the zoo’s 15-year-old lion king, Kunwar, had passed away a month later due to injuries sustained in the enclosure. Since then, Samriddhi had been the lone lioness in the zoo, attracting visitors. Samriddhi passing away comes just two days after the zoo delightfully announced …

Two jackals herded back after escape from Delhi zoo; `no threat to visitors`

Two of the jackals that had escaped from their enclosure at the National Zoological Park here have been safely herded back to the holding area, officials said on Monday. An extensive search operation by zoo staff is still underway to trace the remaining one or two jackals that may be roaming the forested belt behind the enclosures, Zoo Director Sanjeet Singh told PTI. He said CCTV feeds are being monitored continuously, and trap cages along with special tracking squads have been deployed across vulnerable pockets within the zoo premises. “There has been no spotting or sign of the animals in the visitors` areas so far,” the director said, adding that containment protocols remain in place as a precaution. The jackals were reported missing from the off-display holding zone on Saturday morning, triggering a large-scale search operation. Zoo authorities formally confirmed the incident on Sunday and issued a statement saying they have launched a search operation to locate some jackals that may have escaped from their enclosure into the forested belt behind the animal exhibits. Bacterial infection kills 31 blackbucks at zoo in Karnataka, probe ordered

Thirty-one blackbucks have died at a zoo here in just four days due to a bacterial infection, Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre said on Monday. The devastating toll, which reduced Kittur Rani Chennamma Zoo`s blackbuck population to seven, has prompted a high-level investigation from the government. Minister Khandre reached Belagavi and held a meeting with the zoo officials. Later speaking to reporters, Khandre expressed “deep pain” over the deaths and ordered an inquiry to determine the source and spread of the disease among the animals. “Prima facie, it is found that these blackbucks died due to bacterial infection. Our officers and veterinary doctors are giving treatment to them,” he said.
