Members of the global K-pop sensation BTS celebrated rapper-producer Suga’s 33rd birthday with a lively and slightly chaotic surprise that quickly went viral among fans.
The celebration took place on March 9 at the group’s agency headquarters, HYBE, just days before BTS’ highly anticipated comeback album ARIRANG drops on March 20. With preparations underway for the album and a massive concert scheduled later this month, the members still managed to carve out time to mark Suga’s special day in their own playful way.
A video of the moment, shared by fellow BTS member J-Hope, captured the introverted rapper looking both amused and overwhelmed as the celebration unfolded.
BTS Surprise Suga With Cake At HYBE
In the video posted online, Suga walks into what appears to be a rehearsal room wearing a black beanie and holding an iced drink, only to be greeted by his bandmates singing “Happy Birthday.” Members RM, Jin, Jimin, V, Jungkook and J-Hope were joined by several HYBE staff members who lit up the room with their phone flashlights, creating a mini concert-like atmosphere.
At the centre of the room sat a large white birthday cake prepared for the rapper.
However, the attention seemed to make Suga visibly shy. As cheers filled the room, he repeatedly asked everyone to calm down.
“Stop it, stop, stop it!” he said, laughing nervously while trying to tone down the excitement around him.
J-Hope filmed the entire sequence, following Suga around the room as the rapper appeared ready to escape the spotlight at any moment. The clip quickly circulated online, delighting fans who love the rapper’s famously reserved personality.
Suga also took to Instagram to share a glimpse of his birthday treats, including a unique black cat-themed cake that reflected his well-known love for cats.
Fans Flood Social Media With Birthday Wishes
The birthday celebrations weren’t limited to the rehearsal room. HYBE also shared a special tribute for Suga on the official BTS Instagram account.
The post featured black-and-white candid photographs of the rapper set to the song SDL from his debut solo studio album D-Day, released under his solo stage name Agust D. The caption read “Happy SUGA Day,” quickly gaining over two million likes and tens of thousands of comments.
Fans, popularly known as ARMY, flooded social media with heartfelt birthday messages. Many expressed their excitement about seeing all seven members together again ahead of the group’s major comeback.
Some fans also found Suga’s bashful reaction during the surprise celebration endearing. Several comments highlighted how J-Hope’s enthusiastic filming contrasted with Suga’s shy attempts to avoid the spotlight.
