Imran Khan and director Abbas Tyrewala recently opened up about why a Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sequel never happened—revealing Aamir Khan’s strong reaction.

Imran Khan and Abbas Tyrewala reveal Aamir Khan rejected the Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sequel idea, saying, “Never refer to this movie again.”

In a cinematic era where Bollywood’s romantic genre seems to be fading into the background, nostalgia continues to keep certain love stories alive—and few films evoke that kind of enduring affection like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Released in 2008, the breezy coming-of-age romance starring Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza still commands a loyal fanbase that refuses to let go.

Recently, during a candid chat on the Aamir Khan Talkies YouTube channel, actor Imran Khan and director Abbas Tyrewala addressed the long-standing curiosity around a potential sequel. And yes, the demand is real. “People literally grab me by the shirt and ask if we’re making a sequel,” Imran laughed. Abbas added, “It’s my everyday DM on Instagram.”

Tyrewala even revealed that he had once approached Aamir Khan—who produced the original film—with a sequel idea not long after the movie’s release. But the pitch didn’t go down well.

“I suggested a sequel where Jai and Aditi are on the verge of separating. Jai runs into Meghna at a party while drunk,” Abbas recalled. “Aamir’s response was clear: ‘Never refer to this movie again if that’s where you’re taking it.’”

Abbas admitted he’s not sure how to follow up a fairytale. “I don’t know how to reboot something like this. I’ve never seen it work well,” he said. Though skeptical about a full-fledged sequel, he did express interest in reuniting the cast, hinting that a reunion special could be on the cards someday.

Despite the passing years, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na remains one of the few rom-coms that still holds a special place in viewers’ hearts. And while a sequel may never materialize, the characters of Jai and Aditi continue to live on—both in reels and in the collective imagination of fans who still believe in gentle, goofy, and timeless love.
