AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi amplify Delhi citizens’ grievances on power cuts, leading to social media storm, protest | Delhi News

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday sparked a social media storm on X after amplifying grievances from citizens about power cuts across various parts of Delhi. The issue gained traction after multiple residents reported disruptions in the electricity supply, culminating in a protest on Outer Ring Road on Thursday night.

Residents of Jagatpur village in Burari blocked the road in protest against the electricity department, demanding an immediate resolution to the outages. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, responding to a video of the demonstration, took to X to express his dismay over the deteriorating power situation under the current BJP-led government.

“We had set up the power system in Delhi with great difficulty, we had worked very hard. And we kept an eye on it daily. There was no power cut anywhere for ten years. These people have made the power situation worse in just one and a half months,” Kejriwal wrote on his social media.

AAP leaders Atishi and Manish Sisodia also weighed in on the matter, warning of an impending crisis as temperatures are set to rise in the coming months. Atishi criticised the current administration’s handling of the power infrastructure, stating, “The condition of electricity in Delhi in March is such that people are forced to take to the streets due to power cuts. So what will happen when the peak demand increases in the scorching heat of May-June?”

“Arvind Kejriwal ji’s government provided 24-hour electricity to the people of Delhi for 10 years continuously, but the ‘vipada’ government proved in just one month that providing 24-hour electricity is beyond their capacity,” she added.

Festive offer

Sisodia highlighted what he described as the BJP-led government’s failure to sustain the uninterrupted electricity supply ensured by the AAP regime. “There was always electricity 24 hours a day in Delhi when Arvind Kejriwal ji was in power, but look at the situation after the BJP government came. People have started coming out on the streets for electricity…” he wrote.

“BJP’s double engine government means you will not get electricity and if you take to the streets against power cuts, the police will arrest you and make you spend the night in the police station,” he stated.

Kejriwal and Atishi also reposted several complaints against the BSES power distribution firm. “Everyday power cuts are in Chhatarpur Extension during day time (11 AM to 4-5 PM),” wrote one user. “It’s been over 8 hours, and half of our street still has no electricity, while the other half does. Complaint already filed, but no action yet. Please send a team ASAP to fix this issue,” wrote another user.

Atishi reshared at least 30 complaints posted on the platform in the last 24 to 48 hours, while Kejriwal reposted around eight posts. “Power cuts in Delhi have gone up substantially in the last few weeks. Most aren’t even scheduled. No updates from BSES. More power cuts in the last two weeks alone compared to last 5 years. Insane,” read one post reshared by Kejriwal’s account.
