As reports about Chandramukhi makers sending legal notice to Nayanthara over the usage of film’s clips in her documentary surfaced, the makers dismissed the reports. Here’s what they said.

‘Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale’, a documentary about the actress’ life and journey in cinema, released on Netflix in November last year. Nearly two months post the release, the documentary has made it to the headlines once again. It is being reported that the makers of the 2005 Tamil film Chandramukhi have taken legal action claiming that the clips used from their movie were used without permission in the actress’ documentary. Reports also suggest that the makers have sued the actress, and demanded Rs 5 crore. However, the makers of Chandramukhi have dismissed these reports, confirming that they granted the actress permission to use the footage.

As per reports, the information about Chandramukhi makers suing Nayanthara was shared by actor Chitra Lakshman on his YouTube channel. According to Lakshman, the makers of Chandramukhi were unhappy with the inclusion of certain scenes from their film in the Netflix documentary. However, according to a report in Times Of India, Chandramukhi makers have denied such reports, and said that they have not filed any case against Nayanthara, In fact, they mentioned that they granted permission to the actress to use the respective footage in her documentary.

Earlier, actor-producer Dhanush had sent a legal notice to Nayanthara and demanded Rs 10 crore for allegedly using a three-second BTS clip from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. On November 16, Tamil star Nayanthara shared an open letter lashing out at Dhanush for denying permission to use contents from the movie, which was produced by the latter.

Directed by Nayanthara’s husband Vignesh Shivan, the film is a milestone in her life as it marked the beginning of Nayanthara’s relationship. The actress requested permission from Dhanush to use songs and content from the film, but he refused to do so even after repeated requests. When the trailer of the film was released, Dhanush sent a legal notice for a three-second clip from the sets of the film.
