Maddox drops Pitt from his name in Angelina Jolie’s film Couture credits, joining siblings who have distanced themselves from Brad Pitt’s surname.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s eldest son, Maddox Jolie, has made a notable change to his professional identity. The 24-year-old is credited as “Maddox Jolie” — without the Pitt surname — in the end credits of his mother’s latest directorial venture, Couture.
The drama, which debuted in French theatres on February 18, stars Jolie as an American filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer while in France to create a video for a Paris fashion show. Maddox worked behind the scenes as an assistant director on the project, further cementing his growing involvement in filmmaking.
Interestingly, this is not the first time his name has appeared without “Pitt.” When Couture premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, production notes provided to journalists also listed him as Maddox Jolie.
However, the change marks a shift from his previous credit. In the 2024 Netflix drama Maria, where Jolie portrayed opera legend Maria Callas, Maddox was credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt while serving as a production assistant.
Siblings Also Step Away From Pitt Surname
Maddox is not the only one among the Jolie-Pitt children to distance themselves from their father’s last name. Jolie shares six children with Pitt: Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for The Outsiders, the Broadway musical Jolie helped produce. Her name appeared without “Pitt,” sparking conversation about the family’s evolving identities.
Later that year, Zahara introduced herself publicly as Zahara Marley Jolie during a college sorority event, omitting the Pitt surname. Around the same time, Shiloh — born Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt — legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie after turning 18. As required under California law, she published the name change notice in the Los Angeles Times.
While Shiloh’s change has been formalised through legal channels, it remains unclear whether her siblings have pursued official name changes or are simply using Jolie professionally.
The developments come years after Jolie and Pitt’s highly publicised separation, with the family maintaining a largely private stance on personal matters. Shiloh’s attorney previously stated that she made an “independent and significant decision following painful events.”
