Content creator Apoorva Mukhija sparked controversy after a video surfaced showing her abusing a contestant during a controversial episode of Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, where she appeared alongside YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia. The incident drew significant backlash, prompting Mukhija to delete her Instagram posts. In a recent interview wth Yuvaa, the content creator spoke out against what she described as “selective hatred” targeting women who live life on their own terms.
Sharing disappointment in how society never cared to question the contestant whose misogynist comments provoked her to react in a certain way, Mukhija said, “I used to think that it is 2024. I didn’t believe that gender inequality and pay parity was still an issue until I grew up. I realised they were 100% right. Society as a whole, women and men, both included, hate seeing woman be themselves. They hate to see you be happy, they hate to see you financially independent, they hate to see you happy with or without a partner. I started rebelling started as a child against my father’s rules, but that was just a small portion of it. Today, I am rebelling against the society. They would love to give me labels. If I am spending money, travelling, they would say ‘Sugar daddy hai’. I have male friends who drink every single day and post it on Instagram and nobody cares. But it is an issue when it is a woman.”
She added, “Carryminati abuses and it is never an issue, but if I abuse, it becomes an issue.”
When asked if the incident is going to change her or if at all she is planning a comeback, Apoorva Mukhija said, “I will always be the person who dreams big and never gives up. No matter what they throw at me. I am not going anywhere. I have taken a little break, but I am right there.”
She said this incident has made her stronger and fearless. “Earlier, they used to make roast video against me, but now journalists are roasting me like who thought that would be possible. They called me an atankwadi on news. I am someone who is scared to burn even basic crackers during Diwali. Earlier, I used to feel conscious when I used to receive hate, but now the little filter that I had, that too has disappeared. Now, I don’t care,” said Mukhija.
