The anticipation for Super Bowl LX has reached a fever pitch, but the focus remains squarely on the music—at least for now. Three days before he takes the global stage at Levi’s Stadium, Bad Bunny addressed a room packed with international media to discuss his upcoming halftime performance. Despite recent political friction and his outspoken history, the Puerto Rican superstar kept the conversation strictly about rhythm, culture, and the “heartbeat dance.”
The lead-up to Sunday has been shadowed by external commentary. After being named the headliner in September, the artist, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, faced criticism from President Donald Trump, who labeled the choice “absolutely ridiculous.” Furthermore, after Bad Bunny declared “ICE out” during his recent Album of the Year acceptance speech at the Grammys, many wondered if he would use the NFL’s massive platform for a similar political statement.
However, during Thursday’s press conference, there was no mention of ICE or the President. Bad Bunny focused instead on the sheer scale of the moment. “I’m happy but I’m just processing and taking one day at a time and just living, you know what I mean? So, I’m excited about this performance,” he told reporters. Balancing a world tour and a recent Grammy sweep, he admitted the preparation has been intense: “I’ve been working on this show, on what we’re gonna do next Sunday, so it’s been a lot.”
While he remained tight-lipped about potential special guests, he promised a celebration that transcends language barriers. Addressing those who might not be fluent in his primarily Spanish lyrics, he joked that he previously gave the public four months to learn the language. Now, he offers a simpler solution. “They don’t even have to learn Spanish,” he said. “It is better if they learn to dance… The heartbeat dance, that is the only thing that they need to worry about and have fun and enjoy.”
This Sunday marks a full-circle moment for the artist, who appeared as a guest during the Super Bowl LIV halftime show with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira six years ago. Now returning as the main event, the most-streamed artist of the early 2020s is ready to turn the stadium into a massive club. “I just want people to have fun,” he concluded. “There is going to be a huge party, it is going to be what people always can expect from me. Of course, a lot of my culture, but I really don’t want to give any spoilers.”
