Actor Angad Bedi recently talked about his relationship with his father, cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi and how he feels that bond evolved as he grew older and more autonomous. The Pink actor appeared on Maniesh Paul’s podcast, where the two talked about Angad’s career, personal life and everything in between.
When talking about his father, Angad admitted that he was rather annoying as a child and hurt his father in the process. He pointed out that his parents belonged to a different generation, who were raised with different values.
Angad Bedi said, “Our parents and that generation were different, and we are different kinds of parents. There are two kinds of sentiments, anger and hurt. When a person is angry, they’ll curse and shout, and then the sentiment is gone. But when a person feels hurt, he goes quiet. I have annoyed my father a lot. Leaving cricket was just one of the reasons. I also got my hair cut.”
Angad continued, “The reason why I did it is because during that time, Sikhs were made fun of in the industry. We were pushed aside, and people used to say the wrong things. So that hurt me a lot. Initially I used to give all screen tests wearing a turban, and I even had long hair. Everyone used to say, ‘We don’t want the turban look.’ Look what is happening today. Diljit Dosanjh has taken that look and performed worldwide. Nobody can question that.”
Angad Bedi said that he feels unlucky when he thinks about cutting his hair and how he wishes he never had to take that step. “It is my misfortune that I had to take off my turban; that is my bad luck. My father was extremely hurt, and he was sad. That’s why I think hurt is a deeper emotion than anger. He didn’t talk to me for 10-12 years. I cut my hair when I was 22, and he talked to me when I was 34. Sometimes it takes time, but he talked to me and complimented me for Pink. “Told me during the premiere, ‘You’re not that bad, son,’” said Angad.
Bishan Singh Bedi played 67 tests for India, taking 266 wickets in the process. He passed away in 2023 at age 77.
