BTS member Jungkook has sparked controversy after going live late at night and speaking candidly while having a drink. During the livestream, he shared personal thoughts that fans rarely hear from K-pop stars. He revealed that he used to smoke and worked hard to quit. Now at 30, he admitted that quitting was not easy and acknowledged that he spoke about it without informing his agency, HYBE Entertainment, even though it might upset them.
Jungkook also discussed feeling restricted as a public figure. He said he loves singing and “wants to be honest,” even when he makes mistakes. At times appearing upset, he admitted that he sometimes feels he cannot fully express himself. Jungkook added that he wishes he could speak more freely with fans but often feels limited in doing so.
Jungkook On Smoking And Pressure As A Public Figure
According to AllKPop, Jungkook opened up about his past smoking habit, saying, “I want to talk about smoking. I’m thirty now. I smoked a lot. I tried really hard to quit. The moment I say this, the company will probably go crazy. It’s not something I discussed with the company, but I spoke out of frustration. I love singing and I’m someone who wants to be honest. If I do something wrong, I want to admit it.”
Revealing the pressure, he said, “I don’t normally listen to music. I only listen to it because I don’t want to fall behind. I’m human too. I just want to enjoy myself. How many people in this world can truly be honest? I wanted to be honest with ARMYs. If it wasn’t for the company, I would have told you everything.”
During the livestream, a voice could be heard in the background, seemingly trying to prevent him from speaking too freely. At one point, Jungkook wondered aloud whether his agency would be upset with him later. When some viewers in the comments urged him to end the live session, he refused, making it clear that he doesn’t like being told what to do.
BTS’ Comeback
BTS is preparing to return with their fifth album, titled ARIRANG, which will be released on March 20. The group is expected to reunite with fans through new music after a long wait. A day after the album drops, BTS will hold a special event called BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE | ARIRANG. The program will take place at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul, South Korea, where they plan to meet fans and talk about the new album.
