Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said that a skilled and empowered youth population forms the backbone of a Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat, underlining the state’s continued efforts to strenghten skill education and industry-oriented training on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
In a post shared on X, the Chief Minister said that the youth of Assam are tranforming their aspirations into accomplishments and are making a significant contribution to the state’s development.

“On World Youth Skills Day, we celebrate Assam’s young minds who are turning ambition into achievement and powering the state’s growth story,” CM Sarma said.
He stated that the Assam government has been working to build a strong ecosystem that prepares young people with the knowledge and practical skills needed to thrive in an evolving global economy.
According to Assam Chief Minister, skill education has now been introduced in more than 1,700 schools across the state. He added that industry-linked training programmes are also being expanded to enhance employability and reduce the gap between education and the demands of the job market.
CM Sarma further emphasised the contribution of Assam Skill University and other skill development institutions in equipping the state’s youth for emerging opportunities across various sector. “Through skill education in over 1,700 schools, industry-linked training programmes and institutions such as Assam Skill University, Assam is creating a strong ecosystem that equips youth with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in a changing world,” he said.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that skill development continues to be one of the state government’s major priorities as it works towards creating a future-ready workforce capable of supporting economic growth and industrial development.
Over the past few years, Assam has stepped up its focus on vocational edcation, entrepreneurship and collaboration with industry to improve employment prospects for young people. The government has also introduced several initiatives aimed at aligning skill development programmes with the needs of emerging industsries.
Observed every year on July 15, World Youth Skills Day highlights the importance of providing young people with technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills to promote employment, decent work and sustainable development.
