Cocktail 2: Shahid Kapoor questions 'A' rating by CBFC

Cocktail 2: Shahid Kapoor questions 'A' rating by CBFC

Shahid Kapoor’s latest release Cocktail 2, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon, hit theatres on Friday, June 19.

While the film has already generated buzz among moviegoers, the actor recently expressed surprise over the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarding the romantic drama an A certificate.

The CBFC has not made any visual cuts. Hence, all the romantic and intimate scenes have been left untouched. However, a few audio modifications were requested. A cuss word mentioned in the subtitles was asked to be removed.

Directed by Homi Adajania and co-written by Luv Ranjan, Cocktail 2 serves as a spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Cocktail. The film marks Shahid’s fifth adult-rated movie after Kaminey, Udta Punjab, Kabir Singh and O’Romeo.

Shahid Kapoor on ‘A’ Certification

Speaking about the certification, Shahid admitted that he was puzzled by the decision. “There is nothing in this film that you might find objectionable. I know we have gotten an A-certificate; I am figuring out why. I did not understand. This film tells the story of three people. You can watch it with everyone,” he said.

Despite his confusion over the certification, Shahid remains optimistic about the audience’s response to the film. The actor described Cocktail 2 as a story rooted in relationships and emotions, adding that he hopes viewers leave theatres feeling connected to its message.

Cocktail 2 explores relationships

According to Shahid, the film reflects the complexities of life and human connections through the journeys of its three central characters. He also shared that he wants audiences to walk away with a sense of warmth and positivity after watching the film.

The film brings together Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon for the first time, making it one of the most talked-about Bollywood releases of the month.

Meanwhile, comparisons with the original Cocktail, which featured Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan and Diana Penty, have been inevitable. Whether Cocktail 2 can recreate the charm of its predecessor will now be decided by audiences as the film begins its theatrical run.
