Delhi Capitals Sets 178 Run Target Against Gujarat Giants


Delhi Capitals set a formidable target of 177 runs in the WPL 2025 match against Gujarat Giants played on March 07 at Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Delhi Capitals has already secured their spot in the playoffs with five wins in seven matches they played this season so far while Gujarat has three wins.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning have provided a solid start for Delhi Capitals scoring 51 runs in the powerplay.

Meg Lanning scored 33 runs while Shafali Verma contributed 17 runs in the powerplay. However, Meghna picked the wicket of Shafali for 40 runs in the 9th over.

Meg Lanning slammed her 9th WPL fifty off 35 deliveries with a magnificent six in Kanwar’s delivery.

Meg Lanning has scored 847 runs in 25 matches at an average of 28.50 and a strike rate of 124.01 with a high score of 72.

Meanwhile, Deandra Dottin dismissed Jess Jonassen for 9 runs off 10 deliveries in the first ball of the 13th over.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Annabel Sutherland who came in the lineup gets dismissed by Meghna Singh for 4 and 14 runs.

However Meg Lanning went on to score 92 runs off 57 deliveries before being Deandra Dottin in the fifth ball of the last over.

Meghna Singh picked three wickets while Deandra Dottin picked 2 wickets in Delhi Capitals’ innings.

Gujarat Giants won the toss and opted to bowl. Speaking at the toss, GG Women’s captain Ashleigh Gardner said, “We are going to have a bowl.”

“It was a pretty good surface the other night, our bowlers have stemmed the run flow in the recent games and hopefully we can do that today as well.”

“There was some dew last time and hope batting becomes easier later on. It (captaincy) has been a challenge but having some international expericence and the coaching staff has helped.”

“Different people have stood up at different times but most exciting thing has been our bowlers; be it Kashvee or Fulmali.”

Meanwhile DC Women captain Meg Lanning said, ” I think it looks a good batting wicket. It does not matter what you do first till you do it well. The group has done well to switch on and off when needed.”

“We have got one change. Most opening bowlers in the league have done well, the ball has swung around and for us it is about getting through that period.”
