Eric Dane’s final interview for Netflix’s Famous Last Words reveals his emotional goodbye to daughters Billie and Georgia after ALS diagnosis.

Eric Dane died at the age of 53.
Eric Dane spent his final months quietly preparing a message he hoped his daughters would carry forever.
The actor, best known for his roles in Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy, died on Feb. 19 at the age of 53, just 10 months after publicly revealing his diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
Before his passing, Dane participated in a deeply personal interview for Netflix’s upcoming series Famous Last Words. The conversation was filmed in secret and only released after his death. At the end of the interview, the actor was left alone with the camera — and used the moment to speak directly to his teenage daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14, whom he shared with ex-wife Rebecca Gayheart.
“Billie And Georgia, These Words Are For You”
Looking straight into the lens, Dane began softly: “Billie and Georgia, these words are for you. I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?”
He reminisced about days spent together at the beach, saying he would always picture them playing in the water. “Those days, pun intended, were heaven,” he reflected.
Then, with measured calm, Dane shared four lessons he said the disease had forced him to learn.
His first message was about presence. “First, live now, right now in the present. It’s hard, but I learned to do that,” he said. He admitted that for years he had been consumed by worry, regret and self-doubt, replaying past decisions. ALS, he explained, stripped that away. Survival demanded focus on the present moment. The past, he said, carries regret; the future is unknowable. Only now truly belongs to us.
His second lesson: fall in love — not just romantically, but passionately. “Find your passion, your joy. Find the thing that makes you wanna get up in the morning,” he urged. Dane revealed he had fallen in love with acting at their age and never lost that spark.
“Fight Until Your Last Breath”
Third, he spoke about friendship. “Choose your friends wisely. Find your people and allow them to find you,” he said. During his illness, Dane could no longer do simple things he once enjoyed — driving, grabbing coffee, going to the gym. But his friends showed up. “Just show up. And love your friends with everything you have,” he said.
His final lesson was about resilience. “Finally, fight with every ounce of your being and with dignity,” Dane said. “This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit.”
He described resilience as his “superpower,” joking that while a cat has nine lives, he was on number 15. Even in the face of the unimaginable, he urged his daughters to fight with honesty, integrity and grace.
As his voice cracked, he delivered his final words: “Billie and Georgia, you are my heart. You are my everything. Good night. I love you. Those are my last words.”
