Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste brought his classical magic to India for the first time. Batiste’s debut delivered an unforgettable experience to the audience. What began as a solo performance gradually evolved into a collective effort as the audience could not resist joining him.

The singer-musician emerged in a warm amber glow as he took his seat at the piano at Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam, with a sea of people awaiting to be mesmerised by his music.

As Batiste began playing the piano, it immediately created a classical and spiritual atmosphere inside the auditorium. When his fingers moved across the keys for the opening notes, the room erupted in applause, followed by hundreds of fingers snapping in tempo. His performance echoed the same iconic spirit he has brought to stages across the world.

Jon Batiste Performs Lonely Avenue

Midway through his set, the musician performed his famous Grammy-nominated track Lonely Avenue. Before going into the chorus, Batiste took a pause to scan the audience-packed room and told them, “Become my choir.”

Soon after which the crowd joined him by following his cues. The unified soaring voice took the musician by surprise. “This is one of the beautiful things that we are doing together here today, and it is a powerful thing to celebrate the music of those who have come before us,” he remarked before going on to perform a rendition of Duke Ellington’s Caravan. Batiste ended the show with his tribute to jazz, including a soulful take on Blue Monk.
