The right-arm bowler Harshal Patel’s four-wicket haul has helped the side restrict Chennai Super Kings to 154 runs in the IPL 2025 game played at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.

His returns of 4/28 in his four-over quota, picking the wickets of Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis, MS Dhoni and Noor Ahmad.

Both Chennai and Hyderabad are hanging at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, and the defeat in the game could lead to elimination.

Batting first, Shaik Rasheed and Ayush Mhatre opened the innings while Shami opened the bowling attack. However, Rasheed was sent out on a duck in the first over of the innings.

Sam Curran, who joined Mhatre, went out for 9 runs with CSK struggling with 39 runs. Cummins dismissed Ayush Mhatre for 30 runs in the last over of the powerplay, which made CSK lose 3 wickets in the powerplay.

Jadeja and Dewald Brevis joined hands in the innings where the former sent out by Mendis for 21 runs. Shivam Dube and Brevis literally powered up the innings with Brevis smashing four sixes.

Harshal Patel bagged the wicket of Dewald Brevis for 42 with CSK struggling losing five wickets for 114 runs.

Dube went on to lose his wicket to Jaydev Unadkat while Harshal Patel dismissed MS Dhoni for 6 runs. Cummins and Harshal Patel went on to pick the wickets of Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad for 2 runs each respectively.

Hooda played a crucial role in helping the side to cross 150 run mark with Khaleel Ahmed on the other side. Finally with the dismissal of Hooda, Chennai Super Kings scored 154 runs losing all 10 wickets in the game.

Speaking at the toss, Pat Cummins said, “We gonna have a bowl first. Chennai is always a big game, coming off a couple of loses but it is a new venue and boys are up for it. If the wicket is good, backing them to get a big total and otherwise also, backing them to do well. The pitch looks a little bit dry.”

Meanwhile CSK captain MS Dhoni said, “Dew was the main reason why we also wanted to bowl first. Almost in all the departments when you are not playing good cricket, chances are there will be pressure on the other guys as well.”

“We want to get the process right and that is what we are looking to aim for the rest of the games. We are looking at one game at a time and we are looking at few combinations and have confidence in your ability and execute what you want to.”

“We are not too sure how the wicket is. The groundsmen are trying their level best, I feel the old red sil wicket was a good one, the one before 2010 Champions Trophy. We have made 2 changes. Rachin and Shankar out. Brevis and Hooda in.”
