Former India batter Virender Sehwag was left disappointed by Hardik Pandya’s decision to continue with Deepak Chahar for 2 more overs after the bowler had faced discomfort bowling his first due to a hamstring issue which led to strapping his leg during the match against Punjab Kings. Sehwag said that if Pandya had brought himself or Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the two overs instead of Chahar, Punjab could have been kept under pressure.
“I said this in the commentary box also that when Deepak Chahar had a problem with his hamstring, he made him bowl 2 overs. He had bowled a maiden in his first over but then conceded 28 runs from the next two overs. It was here where the match shifted in favour of Punjab. If he had given the ball to Bumrah or himself (Hardik) or Ashwani Kumar at that time, they wouldn’t have conceded the 17 runs that went in that over. It would put the pressure on Punjab. As a captain he (Hardik) disappointed me with his bowling changes,” Sehwag said on Star Sports after the MI vs PBKS match.
Mumbai let go of a golden chance to secure a place in Qualifier 1 when they lost to Punjab Kings by 7 wickets and they will now face off with either Royal Challengers Bengaluru or Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator, depending on RCB’s result in the LSG match on Tuesday.

Asked to bat first, MI scored 184 for seven and PBKS completed the chase of 185 with nine balls to spare. Priyansh Arya (62 off 35 balls) and Josh Inglis (73 off 42) struck sparkling half-centuries to lead Punjab Kings’ chase.
Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav top-scored for MI with 57 off 39 balls while there were two wickets apiece for Marco Jansen, Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vyshak, who was, however, smashed for 23 runs in his final over by Suryakumar and Naman Dhir.
