Humpy beats Sarasadat Khadem, regains 2nd spot


Koneru Humpy made a thrilling comeback in the Monaco Women’s Grand Prix after Monday’s defeat in round 6.

Humpy defeated Sarasadat Khadem of Spain to remain joint second in the standings with four points.

Aleksandra Goryachkina and Batkhuyag Munguntuul are also in the second spot with four points each, with Kateryna Lagno remaining the sole leader.

On Tuesday, Humpy was the only winner, with the remaining four matches ending in draws.

In the round 6, she suffered a loss against Aleksandra. The loss dropped Humpy down in the standings with three points out of a possible six.

Lagno, who shared points with Zhongyi Tan in the seventh round, now has 4.5 points, with Humpy trailing her by 0.5 points.

Harika Dronavalli, meanwhile, played yet another draw. This time, she earned a draw against Batkhuyag.

The tournament winner will be decided on February 27. The top three prizes are €18,000, €13,000, and €10,500, respectively. Alongside the prize money, players will also earn valuable Grand Prix points.
